Rocks Hotel, Macau Nov 2015

Rocks Hotel is an extremely pretty hotel located in Macau Fisherman’s Wharf.  Located right by the waterfront and opposite Sands Casino, the hotel provides fabulous views of the very long and impressive Friendship Bridge.

Built and decorated in Victorian style, this hotel provides a welcome and atmospheric change from the aggressive modern commercialism of the rest of Macau.  The Victorian style extends to the rooms where the bed, paintings, lamps and bathroom furnishings all have character and extend the Victorian feel of the hotel.

Extremely exclusive, there are only 72 rooms and they fill up easily.

Being so pretty and by the waterfront, it is easy to understand why the hotel is sooooo popular for photo shoots.  There is always a photo shoot going on.  ALWAYS.

It may be a bridal shoot or for some fashion magazine.  The spiral staircase with a beautiful  4-storey mural behind and suspended chandeliers on top is a to-die-for unofficial photo stop for all visitors to Macau.

There is only one restaurant in the hotel——-  Vic’s.  It is a pleasure to sit on the terrace and enjoy the sea breeze and their popular afternoon tea.

Right beside the hotel is Fisherman’s Wharf where you find trendy restaurants and pubs offering a wide variety of cuisines.  After dinner, one can of course take a lovely stroll along that waterfront.

Babylon Casino is right beside the hotel.  Sands casino is right across the street where you can also find McDonald’s and KFC.

The hotel provides a free shuttle to Macau Ferry Terminal from 1100 to 1900.  The ferry leaves at the start of the hour and at 30-minute mark of the hour.

不是新人在拍結婚照,就是時尚雜誌前來取景拍攝。酒店的螺旋式樓梯背後是一副四層樓高的壁畫,上面掛著水晶吊燈。那裡是所有前來澳門旅遊的人們必經的拍攝景點,錯過可惜。

酒店唯一的飲食場所是宜景餐廳。在餐廳的陽台上,悠閒地品嚐餐館高人氣的下午茶點,涼爽的海風迎面輕拂,可真是人生一大享受。

漁人碼頭就位於酒店的旁邊。您能在那裡找到多間時尚餐館和酒吧,各種料理任君挑選。晚飯後,您還能沿著海岸線散步,讓心情來個徹底放鬆。

巴比倫娛樂場就在酒店旁邊。澳門金沙娛樂場和酒店僅隔一條街,附近還有麥當勞和肯德基快餐店。

酒店提供直達外港碼頭的免費接駁巴士,巴士服務時間從早上11點起至傍晚7點。渡輪每小時整點離港,每30分鐘一趟。

Gaylord is a fantastic dining find right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui.

As soon as one steps in, the sense of luxury and royalty is immediately felt.  This is Indian fine dining done right.  There are red chandeliers and cream and red upholstery.  One dines on linen table cloths and fine China.

Vegetable Samosas (4 pcs)

Crisp spiced coned patties stuffed with potatoes and peas

The samosas are very generous and flavourful.

Tandoori Chicken

Barbecued spring chicken marinated in a saffron flavoured spiced yoghurt

The tandoori is generous and comes steaming hot.  The colour is beautiful and the flavour has completely permeated the meat. The chicken is tender and juicy on the inside.

Rogan Josh Kashmiri

Tender boneless lamb in an onion and red pepper sauce

The lamb shank curry was wonderful.  It was extremely, extremely flavourful and the lamb shanks were particularly tender. The tenderness of the shank particularly stood out in my mind.

It was great to balance a rich and flavourful meal with spinach.  They made the cheese cubes in the spinach themselves.

Garlic Naan

As someone who grew up with Indian cuisine, I can attest that all the dishes are most authentic.  This restaurant is literally 5 mins away from Tsim Sha Tsui by foot.

For authentic Indian cuisine in a fine dining environment, Gaylord is the place.

爵樂– 是間非常好的晚餐地點且位於尖沙咀市中心。

當你踏進餐館的第一步,瞬間就覺得豪華和貴氣。這是一間正式且正宗的印度餐館。這裡有著紅色的水晶燈和奶油色及紅色的家私裝潢。你可在鋪著亞麻布的桌子上用精緻的瓷器用餐。

薩莫薩三角煎餃非常大而且很美味。

唐杜里也很大份而且端來時熱騰騰的。它的顏色很漂亮而且肉的味道完全滲透入味。裡邊的雞肉很有彈性且多汁。

羊腿咖哩很好吃。它真的是非常,非常美味可口而且羊肉非常彈牙。羊腿肉的彈性還纏繞在我的腦海裡。

一個豐盛而且美味的一餐以菠菜來均衡最好。他們用立方型奶酪摻在菠菜裡邊。

因為從小吃印度餐長大,我可以證明這裡的食物都是非常正宗道地。這間餐館離尖沙咀大約五分鐘腳程。

要在正式的餐館裡吃道地的印度餐,就選爵樂這地方。

Tamarind satisfies all your senses from offering a veritable feast for your taste buds to providing a spectacular sight from its outdoor terrace. The fabulous new Pan-Asian restaurant is located in Wan Chai, and serves the best of Thai, Indian, and Vietnamese cuisine. The restaurant’s warm interiors set the ambience for romantic dinners by the sea while its outdoor lounge, overlooking Hong Kong’s stunning skyline, makes it a perfect place to gather for drinks. Tamarind is also a perfect party venue for cocktail functions, wedding celebrations, corporate events, and theme parties.

The Cuisine

Tamarind’s Thai & Vietnamese kitchen is headed by Chef Amoo. He captures the essence of Thailand and Vietnam and recreates it in his dishes at Tamarind. The enticing menu features Thai pomelo salad with grilled prawn, oven roasted black cod marinated in tamarind, royal Thai massaman curry of chicken and baby potatoes and stir fried spicy pork neck served on a sizzling plate.

On the other side of the kitchen is Chef Ravilal Bhandari, who leads the Indian Kitchen.  Some of Chef Bhandari’s mouth-watering specialties include pani poori trio, crispy puffs stuffed with tangy potatoes with a selection of spiced water, tandoori salmon in yogurt with dill, fennel, honey and mustard, lamb dum biryani, basmati rice and boneless lamb braised with spices and saffron cooked in a sealed pot.

Prawn Peri-Peri

This is the perfect appetiser—- crusty prawns paired with a refreshing salad.  Goes perfectly with a glass of champagne.

Tom Yum Kung

Very authentic. En point.

Chicken Korma

Very creamy and fragrant.  Many pieces of chicken which go perfectly well with the dry, crusty and chewy Naan bread.

This is pan-asian fine dining.

Housed in a pretty 3-storey yellow building, “Antonio” is a dining instituition in Macau.

The restaurant is intimate.

Dark wood is complemented with blue table cloths, blue curtains and beautiful blue and white tiles on the walls. Flowers hanging from the ceiling and little floral arrangements on the tables inject much welcomed pockets of life into the space and provide needed balance.

Prawns sauteed with Garlic

Garlicky and stimulating, the fire from the garlic punches the palette lightly and wakes it up for more palette sensory stimulation. Ice cold and slightly acidic,  the Alvarinho is a most excellent accompaniment to this appetizer.

Creamy Asparagus Soup

This soup is amazing.  It is the creamiest asparagus cream soup I have ever tasted.  The bits of asparagus in the soup are tender and crunchy, which only add to the quality of the soup.

Portuguese Rabbit with White Bean Stew

The rabbit is imported from Portugal.  This is yet another amazing dish.  The rabbit has a distinct flavour and oh-so-satisfying. Though not exactly the star of the dish, the surrounding legume and vegetables have been executed with equal care.  The white beans are soft, the carrots are firm but give way easily to bite, the baby corn and broccoli are crunchy. Each was cooked to the degree of perfection.  I was amazed at the attention given to the supporting ingredients of a dish.  The care given to supporting ingredients only speak of the high quality of cuisine provided by this restaurant.

An excellent dessert is the restaurant’s own “Antonio Porto Reserve”.

Located away from the rowdy Cotai strip where all the tourists and integrated complexes are, the restaurant is nevertheless packed EVERY night.  It is also telling that the patrons are locals and not clueless tourists lured in by hype.  Reservations are a must here if you expect to get a seat.

Stuffed to the gills with accolades, this restaurant deserves each and every one of them.

蒜味的刺激,是由輕拍過的大蒜經過火候的翻炒後更加提出了蒜味,也驚醒了沉睡中的嗅覺與視覺的感官體驗。
在這道開胃菜裡,冰涼並帶著輕微酸澀的Alvarinho是最完美的搭配。

蘆筍濃湯
這湯是讓人驚訝的。這是我嚐過最濃綢的蘆筍奶油湯。
在這湯裡能品嚐到蘆筍裡又嫩又脆的口感,這只是為了增加湯的質量。

燉葡萄牙兔子與白豆
這兔子是從葡萄牙進口的。這又是另一道令人驚訝的菜餚。
這兔子是能讓人感到驚嘆滿足的同時並帶有它獨特風味。
這道菜雖然不是人氣菜餚,但是與周圍的豆類和蔬菜受到同等的待遇。
搭配軟軟的白豆,爽脆的小玉米和西蘭花,帶點厚度的胡蘿蔔,但能輕易的讓人咬開,每一樣都煮到完美。我感到訝異,廚師能對於每一樣食材的講究給予了同樣的關注。那份高水準的講究能讓這餐廳的每一樣食材彷彿會說話般地傳達出去。

最熱銷的甜品是這家餐廳自創的”Antonio Porto Reserve”。

這家餐廳每一晚都是門庭若市的,雖然這裡的地理位置與環境,遠遠隔開了喧鬧的熱門景點與遊客,但這同時也可以充分地了解到這家餐廳是無需任何的炒作也能夠如此火紅。所以,如要光臨這家餐廳,您必須預先預約才能得到一個位子。

這是一家結合了好口碑和好食材的餐廳,絕對​​能讓每一位前來的客人感到值得與滿足。

 

The Parklane Hong Kong, a Pullman Hotel Nov 2015

The Parklane Hong Kong is a wonderful, wonderful hotel which provides excellent value.

The 834-room hotel is undergoing a refurbishment. With white as the main decor colour, the new rooms have a clean, bright feel.

The renovated Family rooms have double Queen beds in the which is obviously very practical for families.  The Family Rooms have an added sliding door which separates the shower area and sleeping area.  I found that very thoughtful and considerate in cutting out noise to prevent awakening children.

If you stay in a Executive room, you have access to the Club Lounge,

which greatly helped made my stay at The Parklane enjoyable.

Everyday, from 2.30pm – 5.30pm, the Club Lounge provide a simple afternoon tea.  It includes warm raisin scones (with various flavours of jam in neat, individual little jars and cream), taco chips and other small nibblies.  You can to choose from various quality teas and coffee.

From 6-8pm every day, you enjoy cocktail hour in the Club Lounge.   You can enjoy small or d’oeuvres such as teriyaki chicken skewers and pastry puffs.  The Parklane actually offers free flow sparkling wine in the Club One during cocktail hour.  That is one big advantage The Parklane has over other hotels.

You can enjoy breakfast in the Club Lounge.  It is a simple Western breakfast—- eggs, sausages, toast, fruit.  Note: remember to try the organic soy milk. It tastes amazing.

The Club Lounge is well enjoyed by business people.  There are always businessmen talking business the lounge.

The best part of staying at The Parklane was the service at the Club Lounge.   They never over-compensate; they never suck up to you.  They just seem genuinely want to provide a good service.

As part of the refurbishment, The Parklane features a new contemporary lobby design conceived by celebrated Hong Kong architect William Lim of CL3 Architects.  The design of the lobby boasts plush furnishings, and a contrast of textures from stone, marble, copper to timber for a feeling of luxurious and casual comfort.  An interactive E-concierge offers guests the convenience to plan their journey.

Newly reinvented and launched, the new lobby lounge Ebb & Flow is a contemporary buzzing hotspot in the heart of Causeway Bay.  Conceived for the millennial generation of “beautiful nomads”, Ebb & Flow features a modern design, cutting edge tech elements and delectable food options.

Ebb & Flow is the first hotel in Hong Kong to introduce a rare, Specialty steampunk coffee machine.

Anticipating the needs of the millennial traveller, who works while on holiday, there are Apple stations in Ebb & Flow where you can print things out for FREE.

Also, the millennial traveller needs to be connected all the time.  To that end, Ebb & Flow features high tech charging hotspots— just put your device on the circle and your device will be charged.

I thought that was technologically advanced and they really understood the needs of the modern traveller.  In addition, I am happy to report that wifi speed throughout the hotel is really fast—great for uploading photos.

To complement the decor, The Parklane has partnered with Galerie Junger to present Austrian photographer Paul Kolp’s series of photographic prints to enliven the Ebb & Flow interior.  Kolp captures the sensuality and aesthetic of food produce, a common theme in his oeuvre.

In addition, the lobby also features a large-scale digital installation Dissection, a kaleidoscope through movement, vibrancy and visual stimulation.  The digital art piece is a dynamic focal point set behind the reception.

Located in the heart of Causeway Bay, the hotel is literally 3 min walk from Causeway Bay MTR station.  Causeway Bay is a shopping paradise— every brand and shop is there.  That also means you can find every type of cuisine readily available.  A supermarket is right next door to the hotel.  A park is right in front of the hotel, so you have a green space should you need to take a walk.  A park also means you have a unblocked view of the Causeway Bay city area.  If your taxi driver does not know where The Parklane is, just tell him IKEA Causeway Bay.  IKEA Causeway is located in the basement of the same building as The Parklane.  Having IKEA downstairs also means you always have cheap food on your doorstep.

The Parklane also has a European restaurant RIVA with a rooftop terrace where Hong Kong superstar Alan Tam held his own celebration.

The Parklane is the accommodation for Singapore Airlines and KLM crew.

The Parklane is an excellent hotel.
