Fusion Maia Resort, Danang

Fusion Maia Resort sits right on My Khe Beach (China Beach) and faces the South China Sea.  It is one of the premier, if not the premier resort in Danang.  Its neighbours are other big-name resorts such as Crowne Plaza, Le Meridien, Pullman etc.  Fusion Maia has its own private beach which is free from peddlers.  The beach is clean and there are sheltered deck chairs on the beach.   The beach is a good place to watch the dramatic changes of the sky as the day goes on.

To take a taxi from the airport to Fusion Maia cost me 180,000 dong (170,000 fare + 10,000 airport entry the driver paid when he entered the airport).  It is a short 15-minute ride.  To take a taxi from Fusion Maia to the city center cost me 120,000 dong.

Fusion Maia is an all-villa resort.  There are 86 villas.  Each villa comes with a bed (obviously), a living room, a porch with its own sitting area, a gigantic bathroom with a tub big enough for two and a shower stall, and your own private pool with 2 deck chairs.  The villas are very spacious.

Fusion Maia is an all-spa inclusive resort.  Guests are guaranteed 2 spa treatment per day.  Additional treatment can be booked, subject to availability and only after the 2 guaranteed treatment have been consumed.  Treatment options include foot/ hand/ shoulder/ head massages (30 mins), full body massages (Thai/ oil – 50 mins), manicure/ pedicure (30 mins), facial (50 mins).  I found the treatment time a little too short.  I would have liked my foot massages at least 50 mins long and my full body massage at least 90 mins long.  But there’s always a way around it—–I just booked 2 foot massages back to back.  It worked! *wink*  There are both male and female therapists available.  They all seem to know what they are doing and their massages are effective.  Even the female therapists can give strong massages when required.  The spa also organises yoga sessions and other healthy living activities.

The best part about staying at Fusion Maia (even better than the unlimited spa treatment, for me at least) is the option to enjoy breakfast at any time, even in the middle of the night at 2am.  You can order from a set menu at any hour and it will be delivered to you.  The set menu options include:

Continental

Bakery selection, butter and jam, cold cuts, emmental cheese, granola, natural yoghurt, fresh fruit, daily surprise

Western Fusion

Bakery selection, butter and jam, roasted tomato, grilled sausage, bacon, eggs to order, bread and butter pudding, vanilla sauce

Vietnamese Fusion

Bakery selection, butter and jam, chicken or beef pho, sweet yoghurt and compote, fresh fruit

Natural Spa

Bakery selection, butter and jam, vegetable noodles, bircher muesli and aloe vera, fresh fruit

You can enjoy your breakfast anywhere: in your room, by your private pool, by the common pool, on the beach etc.  People come to a resort to chillax.  It’s great to be able to sleep till noon or 2pm and still have a big satisfying breakfast waiting for you.

Initially, I had thought the anywhere breakfast is just a money-saving tactic of the hotel— they just have to prepare a few items of say, an American breakfast, as opposed to the huge variety of a breakfast buffet.  But this is not the case.  There is also the usual breakfast buffet available everyday from 6.30am to 10.30am.  The usual items are all there and the quality is decent.  In other words, the option of 24-hr anywhere breakfast is an additional option that creates great value and freedom for guests.  This is a resort that empathises the needs of resort guests.

The breakfast café (Five Restaurant) is perfectly capable of handling all guests of 86 villas.  In other words, the breakfast capacity is in proportion to the number of guests, unlike some hotels which build so many rooms and overpack the breakfast buffet.  This is a resort that empathises the needs of resort guests.

The staff here is very friendly.  99% will greet you and say ‘Good morning/ Hello” when they meet you around the resort.  Having visited Vietnam, I don’t think the Vietnamese are that friendly people. In other words, the resort staff is extremely well-trained.

Strongly recommended is to stay at Fusion Maia and make a day trip from Fusion Maia to Hoi An.  Fusion Maia provides their own shuttle to Hoi An (3 trips per day – morning, noon, evening).  In the evening, you can still go back to Fusion Maia and enjoy the beach/ pool.
