Strawberry Park Resort, Cameron Highlands

The old stalwart of Cameron Highlands still stands on a beautiful ground full of pretty flowers.  The rooms have gone through renovation and are suitable modern and spacious.  I stayed in a Studio room and the bathroom was also very spacious though there was only a shower stall and no bathtub.

There is an indoor pool with sauna but no gym.  There is also a spa.

It is said that scones (with jam and cream) and tea at the Jim Thompson terrace is an institution.  Though they weren’t extraordinary, surprisingly, I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The presentation, though simple, was effective.

I also had dinner at the Jim Thompson terrace – French Onion soup (RM13), Tenderloin Steak (with fries and boiled vegetables)(RM48), House red wine(RM19).

None was terribly exciting.  They were all just passable for their prices.  Though I had asked for my steak to be done medium, it felt more medium rare.  Nevertheless, I was grateful I had the cash to eat there rather than hail a taxi (more jam) to go town to hunt for cheap food.

After that, back to my room which had approx 10 local and cable channels.

Breakfast was a mixture of western, Chinese (congee) and Malay (nasi lemak) fare.  The quality wasn’t too great but you sure can fill up.

Review: I had wanted to visit some place that is cool with a lot of greenery, hence Cameron Highlands. Alas, it wasn’t that cool, except in the morning and at night.  During the day, as the sun beats down, it was as hot as Singapore.

It is a pity that a place that used to be tranquil and cool is now clogged with traffic jam.

Downside: traffic jams everywhere (time wasted), hot temperatures during the day.

Standout of this trip: the pretty hotel, the scones, the dinner.
