Marini&#x2019;s on 57 is actually a 3-in-1 concept&#x2014;&#x2014;-it houses a bar, a contemporary Italian restaurant and a lounge that serves whiskies and cigars.&#xA0;&#xA0; High up in the sky on level 57 and with few tall buildings to compete with it, Marini&#x2019;s on 57 offers an unobstructed view of KL city.&#xA0; From the bar, you can see a partial view of the Petronas Towers (as the restaurant is right next to Petronas Towers, you are not able to get a full view of the 2 towers). Sitting in the restaurant, you are able to enjoy a sunset view of KL Tower.&#xA0; In the lounge, you can look towards Pavilion Shopping Mall and the Bukit Bintang area. The lounge is open from 3pm every day.&#xA0; It offers a variety of spirits, beer, whiskies and champagne.&#xA0; For munchies, the lounge has pasta, pizza, Italian desserts, the usual selection of bar food and caviar as well.&#xA0; The bar is open from 5pm to 3am every day.&#xA0; There is a wide selection of cocktails, beer, cobblers, sours and daisies.&#xA0;&#xA0;&#xA0; &#xA0; Helmed by the award-winning Chef Federico Michieletto, the Italian restaurant offers traditional recipes served up with contemporary flair and innovative methods. By changing menus along with the changing seasons, the Italian restaurant brings the best seasonal produce directly onto your plate.&#xA0; Chef Federico has previously won the Bocuse D&#x2019;or Asia title for Best Italian Chef of 2012, and was winner of the Gourmand Award for Best Italian Book 2008. He is also the former president of the Chef Association of Malaysia, a judge at the World Association of Chefs Societies, and a member of the Caviar Cordon Noir Gourmet Club. &#xA0;The Italian restaurant is open from 7pm -11pm (Mon &#x2013; Thurs) and 6.30pm &#x2013; 12pm (Fri &#x2013; Sat).&#xA0; The last call is 10.45pm every day.&#xA0; Come as early as you can to catch views of the setting sun.&#xA0; I arrived one Wednesday afternoon, excited to check out this hip joint. I tried 3 cocktails: Smooth Criminal (Effen Cherry Vodka, Dark Cr&#xE8;me de Cacao, Dark Chocolate Ice Cream) Criminally smooth and sexy, with rich, dark chocolate ice-cream and laced with the spite of vodka.&#xA0; Alternately sweet and sassy, this is the perfect accessory to the lady with confidence and attitude. Scottish Martini (Earl Grey Infused Scotch, Tamarind Syrup, Lemon Juice and Egg White) Didn&#x2019;t leave much of an impression on me. Cilantro Sour (Absolut Vodka, Honey Syrup, Lime Juice, Mint Leaves, Cilantro &amp; Egg White) Very asian, very dry.&#xA0; A refreshingly zesty mint green colour. In the restaurant, I tried the salad 20 &#x2013; 10 &#x2013; 8 INSALATA: 88 which includes 20 varieties lives from the ground, 10 Dressings, 4 (edible) Perfumes (!) and 4 (edible) Soils (!!).&#xA0; How can I not try this???&#xA0; The exact ingredients of the salad are included below.&#xA0; &#xA0; Composed of clean, geometrical shapes and all the playful colours of springbloom, the salad was a colourful, manicured garden in its own right.&#xA0; A little apprehensive initially because of the idea of eating soil (????), I found the salad to be fresh, light and inventive.&#xA0; It was great fun picking up and trying the different coloured syringes of edible perfumes.&#xA0; Together with the clean shapes of colours, it was like playing with some sophisticated children&#x2019;s art kit.&#xA0; This salad is a sure-fire conversation starter.&#xA0; &#xA0; For my main course, I tried the veal Vitello: 208 (Veal milk fed tenderloin, potato puree, mushrooms, pink and black garlic &amp; bearnaise sauce).&#xA0; It was light, lean, tender, lightly grilled and is served on top of smooth potato puree.&#xA0; The woodiness of the mushrooms came through very clearly and the sweet shallots are a great, perfect complement to the veal and b&#xE9;arnaise sauce. You can&#x2019;t see the sunset in the bar or the lounge, only in the restaurant.&#xA0; As the restaurant opens at 6.30pm or 7pm, come as soon as the restaurant opens to catch last glimpses of the setting sun.&#xA0; With the sunset light, the restaurant becomes truly beautiful. Take note though, Marini&#x2019;s on 57 has a strict dress code.&#xA0; Besides the obvious ban on slippers, flip-flops, sandals and shorts, the establishment also forbids round neck T-shirts, sneakers and dirty footwear.&#xA0; Gasp!&#xA0; I wonder what would happen to those young Western tourists, whose uniform is T-shirts, jeans and sneakers, who happen to be in KL and want to visit Marini&#x2019;s on 57.
