Make your selection, wait- and be rewarded (or punished, should expectations fall short) with a feast for the eyes and the stomach. It’s all about choice and for some, control. But what if you had to entrust your entire dining experience to the chef, from the moment you enter? If such a concept does not daunt you, read on. Omakase (short for “omakase shimasu,”) translates from the Japanese language into trusting one’s fate in another’s hands, and has come to refer to the Japanese tradition of letting the chef decide what you’ll be eating. Sushi Oribe is one such restaurant that caters to omakase -style dining. Located on the ground floor of ViPod Residences in Kuala Lumpur, Oribe serves true authentic Japanese sushi – the way it’s meant to be created and consumed. All one requires is faith in the chefs and what they create (along with a reservation). Amazingly, the magic is created by Chef Naoya. I personally recommend you request to be seated in front of the chef himself to get the best view possible! While the Devil is in the details, the meal was nothing short of heavenly, with every detail that went into preparing each mouth watering dish like an art form perfected to the highest order. Chef Naoya had the patience of a saint, explaining about each ingredient that went into said dishes, down to what type of fish and how and what to enjoy them with. Each ingredient is flown in from Japan, ensuring nothing but freshest will reach your plate and into your palette. Some highlights of the meal: The meld between savoury and sweet of Chawanmushi with Sakura Prawns was excellent Sweet Prawn With Uni Sushi followed suit. The velvety, creaminess of the uni hit all the right spots for the seafood lover in me. Rice With Chopped Tuna,Ikura,Shiro Ebi And Uni : it is a rice bowl filled with chopped fatty tuna, salmon roe, sweet white shrimp and delicate sea urchin. According to the chef, said dish is only served as part of their more expensive lunch sets. Each mouthful melted in my mouth- and is best savoured slowly, like all good things should be. The same standard extended to dessert, which consisted of melon, grapes and honeydew. No wonder eating is oft compared to a religious experience-patience and faith are both required- and rewarded. Sushi Oribe 寿司 織部 Block C-1, ViPod Residences (right behind Novotel KLCC) No 6, Jalan Kia Peng, Kuala Lumpur, 50450 Opens Mon – Sat: 12pm – 3pm; 6pm – 11pm"}
