Set in the western\ncorner of Hangzhou, Xixi National Wetland Park is home to an interesting\ncombination of urban life and rich ecology, melded together over centuries of\nrich heritage. Its serene landscape and peaceful ambience have attracted many\npoets, writers and intellectuals over the years. Visitors today can enjoy the\nmany scenic enclaves within the wetlands to appreciate what they once did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Towards the south\nof Yanshui Hut (\u70df\u6c34\u5eb5) and next to Zhaotianmuyang<\/a> (\u671d\u5929\u66ae\u6f3e) is the Yanshui Fish Shop (\u70df\u6c34\u6e14\u5e84). It is a place of the three smokes \u2013 willow, cloud, and chimney smoke,\nwhich makes one feel as if they were floating above the sky in a paradisiacal village\nnestled on clouds. After taking in the panoramic view at the top of the three-story\nYanshui Pavilion (\u70df\u6c34\u9601), one can move on to Zhaotianmuyang to sample a variety of\nlocal fish delicacies while sipping on tea with the company of their loved\nones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Xixi\nwetlands, a sight that must not be missed is the Shentankou (\u6df1\u6f6d\u53e3) Village, also named the Deep Pond Harbor. Lined on both sides by 400-year-old\ncamphor trees, the river leads up to the village, which is accessible only by\nboat. Naturally, the surrounding large body of water also served as the race\nground for Dragon Boat competitions, which occurs annually during the Duanwu\nFestival, a time of hustle and bustle for the little village!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not to be missed\nare the plum blossoms and towering bamboo shoots, which can be appreciated in\nthe Xixi Plum Blossom and Bamboo Recreation Area (\u897f\u6eaa\u6885\u7af9\u4f11\u95f2\u533a). This area\nencompasses the Xixi Plum Blossom Villa (\u897f\u6eaa\u6885\u5885), Xixi Cottage (\u897f\u6eaa\u8349\u5802) and the Mountain Villa of the Plum and the Bamboo (\u6885\u7af9\u5c71\u5e84). The cottage was once the home of a renowned scholar of the Ming\nDynasty, Feng Mengzhen (\u51af\u68a6\u796f, 1546-1605), who\nwrote many of his poems here, and maintained collections that he was fond of.\nThe mountain villa was built by Zhang Cibai, a scholar of the Qing Dynasty\n(1777-1857 AD). The best months to visit would be between February and March,\nwhen the flowers are in full bloom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More views of\nnature can be sought from the Qiuxue Hut (\u79cb\u96ea\u5eb5), located in the centre of the\nwetlands, again accessible only by boat. It is known to be the most beautiful\nsight in the park, and homes a significant sight, Xixilu (\u897f\u6eaa\u82a6).
