73@Hillcrest, Singapore

73@Hillcrest has such an easy to remember address (it is located at 73 Hillcrest Road).

A fairly typical Singaporean coffee shop by day,  the space transforms in the late afternoon into a chill bistro serving excellent Western grub and Michelin Bib Gourmand ramen.

73 Iberico BBQ Ribs S$29.90

Signature melt-in-your-mouth and off-the-bone Spanish Pata Negra ribs served with cajun fries & coleslaw. Choice of hickory BBQ/ honey rum sauce.  (Upgrade to Truffle Fries for S$1.90)

As they use Iberico pork,  the price is excellent value for money.  Also,  as the pork is Iberico pork,  the meat is thankfully free of that sour stench so common of pork.  The meat was so thoroughly cooked through that the sweet, tender, DELICIOUS chunks of meat fall readily off the bone, so much so that I ate all the meat using only a fork.  Seriously.

Pork Neck Fillet Steak S$14.50

Very tender and juicy pork collar steak served with garden veggies.  Choice of mushroom/ black pepper sauce.

The pork neck was so tender and look at that price!  And again at that huge chunk of meat.  You just don’t find such value in Singapore any more.

Also worthy of mention was the salad.  I don’t usually like salad but I liked this one.

Umami Ramen with soft-boiled egg S$12

The parent restaurant in Japan is recommended by Michelin Bib Gourmand.   This bowl tastes very authentically Japanese.  The tamago was perfectly sous vide on the inside and the char siew simply melts in your mouth.  Ah……

73@Hillcrest also has delicious brunch items.

Avocado + Poached Egg (vegetarian) S$13.80

Crushed avocado, lemon, olive oil, two poached eggs and fresh kale on wholemeal sourdough, with kale and basil pesto.

Look at all that lovely green colour on the plate.  This makes for a refreshing and satisfying breakfast.

Sausage + Egg Muffin S$11.80

Handmade pork sausage  patty, egg, cheddar, Japanese wheat flour and Taiwan longan blossom honey muffin, with mesclun and crispy chunky hash brown.

Enough of breakfast muffins by fast food chains?  Try this one.  Though the patty is thick,  it tastes fresh and light. Quite a feat, actually.

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood with Tan Kah Kee MRT station within walking distance, 73@Hillcrest delivers excellent value for money.
