All Day Breakfast in Keong Saik @ Chez Suzette, Singapore

Christmas has come and gone.  New Year was spent in hangover.  Life has “settled down”  and everybody has gone back to work.  To add insult to injury, the Singapore government has announced that “Work-from-home is no longer the default”  and that 50% of the workforce can now return to the office.

What are we to do with our lives?

Moi, I choose to comfort myself with food.  On the first Thursday evening of 2022, I decided to Smells Like Teen Spirit and head out to dine after Work.  We need to be out and be seen!

I headed out to fashionable dining hotspot Keong Saik Road.  Just off Keong Saik Road was Teck Lim Road where you find Chez Suzette.  I was definitely in the mood to parler francais that day.

Chez Suzette is how I wish my home looks like.  It is chic but warm, refined but casual.  Not a tiny detail in Chez Suzette – the napkins, the cutlery, the plants, the glasses, the rattan chairs – was out of place.

Like the decor, the service was warm but unfussy.  Manager Deedee epitomized this spirit.

Henri Giraud, Esprit Nature NV $19 per glass

I started my evening with a glass of champagne.  I really needed it!

I usually find the champagnes by the glass in restaurants too dry but this one had an agreeable douceur to it.  The lovely bubbles put me in a good mood.  I was ready to get the main show started.

English Breakfast $29

Available daily 9am to 5pm

Scrambled eggs, breakfast pork sausage, streaky bacon, sauteed mushroom, grilled tomato, baked beans and toasted bagel

Is this the very definition of luxury or laziness?  The idea that you are able to sleep all day till 4.30pm and then crawl to Chez Vous for a delicious English fry-up accompanied by a delicious glass of champagne is just heavenly.

The mushrooms were quite delicious.  The bagel was surprisingly delicious.  The pork sausage was particularly delicious.

Braised Beef Cheek $36

Red wine braised Angus beef cheek, baby carrot, broccoli & cauliflower

I was surprised the portion was so large.  Even guys would be filled up by it.  I’m glad Chez Vous provides good value for money.

The beef was very tender and easily falls apart using your fork.  I can imagine how many hours they spent braising it.  A chic restaurant that does not neglect the quality of its cuisine – what’s not to like?

The real crown of this dish was the juice – thick, rich, savoury, every drop was precious.

Crepe Suzette $15

“A must-try signature dessert from our special recipe passed down through generations”

Crepe with homemade sauce of caramelized sugar and butter, orange juice and zest

  • Supplement of Grand Marnier Flambe $5 extra

Orange flavoured cognac brandy, flambeed table-side

I love dramatic dining.  The dramatic presentation of this dessert only served to push the evening to its crescendo.

I left sated, gastronomically and visually.
