The Most “Blockbuster-Filled” Menu @ Tigress, Singapore + Truly Delicious European Tapas
You may remember Thirsty4balls, a Korean 4-Ball billiard bar located in The Cathay?
Thirsty4balls has re-opened as Tigress at Orchardgateway. The billiard tables still remain but Tigress is also a bona fide restaurant and serves European tapas, Korean food, burgers and pizzas.
Tigress calls itself a Korean-fusion gastro bar. If you, like me, hate fusion flavours, fear not. The menu consists of both European and Korean dishes, rather than European + Korean flavours in the same dish.
Colonial Charm
The decor is simply ravishing. It oozes easy chic colonial charm — think lots of wood, rattan and lots of leafy green plants.
Non-stop “Blockbuster” Menu
Usually when I dine out, I find that I only 5% of the items on a menu please me; the remaining 95% I don’t feel like ordering at all. Tigress is the opposite —- there are so many items on the menu I want to try. They all sound delicious. Where do I start?
Tapas
For a restaurant that considers itself Korean-fusion, Tigress serves possibly the BEST European tapas in Singapore. The flavours are not groundbreakingly original, just solid traditional flavours that are done on point.
Foie Gras & Caviar Crostini $15
Hungarian Goose Liver Foie Gras & Caviar Slathered on Roasted Baguette
The unami of the foie gras + savoury of the caviar + sweetness of the “jammy” sauce. Unbelievable!
Grilled Spiced Octopus $19
Spanish style tender grilled octopus, roasted cajun potatoes and bacon
A classic tapas done really well; nothing wrong here.
Burrata & Truffle Mushrooms $16
French Burrata, wild mushrooms, brown jus and shaved black truffle
I have to admit: this the first time I have burrata paired with mushrooms. I usually have burrata with tomatoes. This is a welcomed change! The coldness of the burrata is a refreshing contrast with the warmness of the sauteed mushrooms. The truffle lends its inimitable flavour and a luxe feel.
Bar Snacks
Korean Yang Nyeon Wings $13
Korean sweet and spicy chicken wings (5 pcs)
The sauce is sticky, gooey and finger-licking good.
As mentioned earlier, Tigress’s menu has an endless array of delicious items I want to try. Tigress has a decent housepour wine menu. You can try all 3 white wines or all 3 red wines for $25. Yes, this is another one of the items I want to try! When they present the wine to you, they are thoughtful and detailed enough to have the name of the wine under each glass so you know what you are tasting.
Red Wine Taste 3 for $25
Monte Do Zambujeiro Tinto 2017 Portugal $14 per glass
Marques De Tomares Crianza 2017 Spain $16 per glass
Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec 2017 Argentina $18 per glass
White Wine Taste 3 for $25
Trivento Tribu Torrontes 2018 Argentina $12 per glass
Terra Do Zambujeiro Branco 2020 Portugal $16 per glass
Gut Hermmanberg Just Riesling Trocken 2016 Germany $18 per glass
All the wine was very drinkable. The riesling was exceptional.
The Tigress $34
Australian Wagyu, Parma Ham, Blue Cheese, Tomato, Caramelised Onion, Pickles, House Sauce
A big burger that does not feel too sickeningly filling.
Salted Caramel with Guinness Beer $15
Guinness Beer Chocolate Sponge with salted caramel, mousse layers topped with caramelised mixed nuts
The beer flavour comes towards the end of each mouthful. The sponge is not too heavily chocolaty, which I like. I don’t like sickeningly sweet chocolate.
Artisan Tea Gelato
Tigress has a whole array of original tea-flavoured gelato such as Sencha, Hojicha, Sencha, Earl Grey.
Midnight Oolong $4.50
Toasted Oolong smothered in dark chocolate and savoury sea salt honeycomb crumble
Utterly delicious. The bitterness of the oolong feel very “cooling”.
Tigress Brew $8
This is cold brew with a bit of milk and sugar. Thankfully, the sweetness level is not too sweet and just right.
