The decor features bench-seating and share tables to encourage communal dining. The atmosphere is convivial. The playlist is a combination of rockabilly, smokehouse blues and California rock. You can find the staples of American bbq on Meatsmith’s menu — brisket, half-chickens with Alabama sauce, pastrami burnt ends and pork ribs. All their meat is smoked in their twoAmerican-made Southern Pride smokers over hickory wood for up to 12 hours. Whisky Sour S$20 Bulleit Bourbon, Lemon, Sugar Syrup, Egg White Strong. It perked me up. Brisket Springrolls S$10 Wonderful surprise! Beautiful sweet meat wrapped by crispy Chinese spring roll skin. Wonderful contrast between the crunchiness of the spring roll skin and the meat. Pastrami Burnt Ends S$10 This was perfect! The pastrami was so flavourful. It had a wonderful faint smokey flavour. Best of all, they knew what they were doing— they provided sauerkraut on the side. The sourness of the sauerkraut provided wonderful balance to the meat and fat. Dry Aged New York Strip S$60 Smoked Cauliflower, Almonds, Blue Cheese The steak was ok. The smoked cauliflower was absolutely delicious. It was the second most delicious thing of my meal. The most delicious thing was the Shiraz from Barossa Old Vine Co, (2005) S$36. At S$36 per glass, initially, I though it was steep. I changed my mind with the first sip. It was ABSOLUTELY worth it. It was rich, velvety and had fine tannins. It was one of the best reds I ever had. Lemon Tart S$5 I didn’t have high hopes for this since this is a “meat”place. I just wanted something sweet to round off my meal. But this tart confounded my expectation—- it was perfectly competent (tangy and limey) and it totally satisfied me. All in all, it was an unexpected dining experience with some exceptional highs. Meatsmith (Telok Ayer) 167-169 Telok Ayer Street, Singapore 068620 Tel: +65 6221 2262"}
