When you arrive at Bangsar station, you will see a shopping mall right in front of the subway station.\u00a0 <\/span>Walk on the side of the road which has the shopping mall.\u00a0 <\/span>Just a few steps on, at the first intersection, turn right into Jalan Maarof.<\/p>\n

You will walk 15-20 mins up a slope.\u00a0 <\/span>Keep walking along this road till you see Bangsar Village Shopping Centre.\u00a0 <\/span>Walk through Bangsar Village Shopping Centre.\u00a0 <\/span>Behind the shopping mall is Bangsar Village——-a few rows of chic cafes, boutiques, hair salons, book stores etc.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

It is highly recommended you follow the above instructions to get to Bangsar Village.\u00a0 <\/span>The traffic to Bangsar is frequently jammed, so even for the short distance from the subway station to Bangsar Village, the taxi fare might be quite high.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

There are no printed menus.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Initially, I had a table right next to the wall.\u00a0 <\/span>I kept craning my neck to read the menu on the wall.\u00a0 <\/span>After a while, I was moved to a table facing the menu wall by the manager, a tacit admission that it was indeed more difficult to read the menu if you have a table next to the menu wall.\u00a0 <\/span>God forbid if you have a table in the middle of the cafe—\u00a0 <\/span>you have people standing all around your table, reading the menu while you have your food.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Antipodean has an Aussie owner.\u00a0 <\/span>I know \u201cmenu on the wall\u201d is typical of Aussie-style caf\u00e9s, but having such a menu arrangement (one wall menu; people standing all around you), how much of it is to benefit the management (no need to print menus—-less overheads) and how much does it really benefit the diner?<\/p>\n

I ordered the Double Salmon Fishcake (RM$17), supposedly one of their signature dishes according to the manager.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>When taking my order, the waitress had the impertinence to go, \u201cJust one entr\u00e9e?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>When the Double Salmon Fishcake arrived, it was full of starch and there were only tiny, pathetic bits of salmon (see my photos).\u00a0 <\/span>Where\u2019s the \u201cDouble Salmon\u201d in the Double Salmon Fishcake?<\/p>\n

Still hungry from the unsatisfying starch cake (Double Salmon Fishcake), I ordered another entr\u00e9e Moroccan Beef Kebab and Golden Couscous (RM$24).\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>At the same time, I ordered another drink \u201cSlice of Heaven\u201d, which is made up of juices from apple, carrot, pear and ginger.\u00a0 <\/span>After a while, before \u201cSlice of Heaven\u201d was served, another waitress came round and asked me \u201cWould you like another drink?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>????????????????\u00a0 <\/span>Did the staff even receive training before they are put on the floor?\u00a0 <\/span>Or do they just mechanically ask diners if they want to order some more without even checking their outstanding orders first?<\/p>\n

The traffic in Bangsar Village was completely jammed because of Friday afternoon Muslim prayers. Service at Antipodean is clueless or severely mediocre.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0When I arrived at the door, I told the waiter I had reservations.\u00a0 He looked completely clueless like he had no idea what a reservation is.\u00a0 I was shoo-ed into the caf\u00e9 to a table.\u00a0 I told another waiter I had a reservation.\u00a0 He too looked completely clueless. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In Antipodean, you see the menu written all across one wall of the caf\u00e9. There are no printed menus.\u00a0\u00a0 Initially, I had a table right next to the wall.\u00a0 I kept craning my neck to read the menu on the wall.\u00a0 After a while, I was moved to a table facing the menu wall by the manager, a tacit admission that it was indeed more difficult to read the menu if you have a table next to the menu wall.\u00a0 God forbid if you have a table in the middle of the cafe—\u00a0 you have people standing all around your table, reading the menu while you have your food.\u00a0 Antipodean has an Aussie owner.\u00a0 I know \u201cmenu on the wall\u201d is typical of Aussie-style caf\u00e9s, but having such a menu arrangement (one wall menu; people standing all around you), how much of it is to benefit the management (no need to print menus—-less overheads) and how much does it really benefit the diner? \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On the wall, written in big letters were the words \u201cNO SEPARATE BILLS PLEASE\u201d. \u00a0Again, it benefits the management (less hassle) but how much value does this really bring to the diner? \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I walked up to the counter to check out the cakes on the counter.\u00a0 A waitress was blocking my view of the cakes.\u00a0 I took one step towards her.\u00a0 Staff who are more aware and service-oriented would move away so the customer can take a better look.\u00a0 She didn\u2019t budge. I ordered the Double Salmon Fishcake (RM$17), supposedly one of their signature dishes according to the manager.\u00a0\u00a0 When taking my order, the waitress had the impertinence to go, \u201cJust one entr\u00e9e?\u201d\u00a0 When the Double Salmon Fishcake arrived, it was full of starch and there were only tiny, pathetic bits of salmon (see my photos).\u00a0 Where\u2019s the \u201cDouble Salmon\u201d in the Double Salmon Fishcake? Still hungry from the unsatisfying starch cake (Double Salmon Fishcake), I ordered another entr\u00e9e Moroccan Beef Kebab and Golden Couscous (RM$24).\u00a0\u00a0 At the same time, I ordered another drink \u201cSlice of Heaven\u201d, which is made up of juices from apple, carrot, pear and ginger.\u00a0 After a while, before \u201cSlice of Heaven\u201d was served, another waitress came round and asked me \u201cWould you like another drink?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ????????????????\u00a0 Did the staff even receive training before they are put on the floor?\u00a0 Or do they just mechanically ask diners if they want to order some more without even checking their outstanding orders first?
