Sedap, Pullman KLCC, Kuala Lumpur
Sedap is a modern fashionable all day dining right behind the popular and crowded Pavilion mall. The look is cool and modern ——think a lot of glass and steel. This fashionable feel is further reinforced by the cool beats they play over the speakers. I especially love the funky colourful china.
My first course was the Ginseng Oxtail Soup (RM$29).
Herb boiled oxtail with ginseng served with mixed vegetables and bun.
It was amazing. The broth was sweet and fragrant, yet light at the same time. The meatiness of the broth was excellently balanced by the copious amounts of carrots celery Ginseng and scallions. They add a refreshing zing and crunch. The flavour was ginseng was not powerful enough to scare away Western palettes. I thought this was fusion cuisine at its best.
The Australian Chilled Black Angus Beef Ribeye (served with portobello mushroom and glazed asparagus with golden garlic; RM$102) I had was perfectly competent. It was even better than some dedicated steakhouses. The mint brown sauce on the side was delicious.
I don’t usually like Penang Char Kway Teow (RM$42) but I liked this one.
Fried ribbon rice noodles with prawns, crab claw, cockles, chives and bean sprouts
It wasn’t too oily and it had raw carrot strips to somewhat balance the oiliness. The best part was, the Char Kway Teow was served in a covered casserole and then the cover was removed and the dish magnificently revealed to you. This is one restaurant that understands anticipation and the spectacle of dining.
I came at a most inconvenient time for the staff—-3pm, but the staff were very quick on their feet. They seemed very energetic and really beamed at me. Their smiles did not seem fake at all.
