2OX, Kuala Lumpur

2OX is an utterly charming French bistro.  The decor is authentic-  think thick white subway tiled walls,  elegant marble top tables and dark wood chairs.

The bar is sexy and I personally think it’s worth coming here just to get a drink at the bar.  I can totally imagine Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt, both tall, blond glamazonians, decked out in Dolce and Gabbana, filming a scene at the bar.

Now,  let’s get on with the show: the cuisine!

The sliced baguette arrived warm and was delicious.  The olive oil was infused with herb,  which lent a greater sense of quality.

Onion soup / gruyere cheese / herb crutons RM$27

The onion soup was outstanding.  It was very sweet and rich and arrived piping hot, just the way it should be.  Having this warm soup certainly helped to calm me down from a very long day.

Lightly torched beef tongue ragout / cheek pea puree / house pickles / melba toast RM$36

Sweet,  delicately spiced beef pairs excellently with the house red wine.

Grilled angus beef striploin (ala carte: 180 gm) / shoestring fries / black pepper sauce RM$130

This would the second-best steak I’ve had if it’s not the best.  Lovingly charred on the outside, the literally perfect medium rare inside,  and just lightly salted,  that’s all it takes for perfection.   The steak is complemented by the perfect shoe-string fry. What did they fry the potato in? Duck fat??  The colour and the smell were gorgeous!

Classic vanilla creme brulee RM$25

I wanted a creme brulee and this certainly satisfied my craving for it.

This is a solid French bistro with a good ambience and very reasonable prices.  If I were staying at the Sheraton just next door or Hotel Stripes (a Marriott hotel) just round the corner, I think I would have my every meal here.

For Muslims,  do not worry.  2OX serves pork-free French dishes.
