NDP2022 All Races Like This @ Halal-certified Captain Kim BBQ & Hotpot, Singapore

I recently tried Captain Kim BBQ & Hotpot at Tampines Junction and thought it was a great place for families to dine.

Captain Kim BBQ & Hotpot is a buffet — everybody picks what they want.  You don’t have to worry about picking dishes to please everyone. In addition, besides BBQ, you also get a hotpot, which should satisfy people who want to “eat healthy”.  BTW, Captain Kim BBQ & Hotpot is halal-certified.  When I dined there, there were Muslim and Indian diners.

More importantly, unlike most BBQ buffets where they only have raw food, Captain Kim BBQ & Hotpot also has cooked food, and quite a large variety too.  They have Korean chicken wings (for dinner only), black pepper udon, carbonara spaghetti, french fries, coleslaw.

Of course, this is a Korean restaurant so there is Korean pancake and Tteokbokki (Korean rice cakes).

Though this is a buffet, the cooked food is quite surprisingly delicious.  The Korean chicken wings have an astounding crunch.  You can literally hear the “krr…” as you bite into them.  The Korean pancake too is crispy and much better than much more expensive a la carte restaurants.

With all these cooked food, parents can serve the cooked food to children and focus on grilling and cooking for themselves.

Of course, children can also pick and choose from the raw buffet should they fancy.

Adults should be able to find something they like from the buffet.  The variety is huge!  This is a meat-lover’s heaven.  There are so many different kinds of meat.

The two most popular kinds of meat are Volcano Chicken and Black Pepper Chicken.  Volcano Chicken has an agreeable spiciness and provides a mild kick.  That should sit well with spice-loving Singaporeans.

Captain Kim BBQ & Hotpot is generous and also keeps the buffet stocked to the brim.

Veggies!
What’s a Korean restaurant without kimchi?

If you think the meat variety during lunch is not enough, come during dinner (though dinner prices are higher).  In addition to the lunch meat spread, they also have beef rolls, ribeye, squid, mussels and prawns.

I particularly like the beef roll.  They are sliced shabu shabu thin and have a fair bit of fat on them.  Since they are thin, they are easy to slice.  With the fat, they become so juicy.  They are un-marinated so you can taste the natural sweetness of the beef.  The seafood is extremely fresh and clean.

I had a lot of fun grilling meat and making lettuce wraps.

They have a variety of sauces to accompany the wraps.

The kimchi soup base of the hot pot was delicious too.  With added enoki mushrooms and seafood (prawns + squid + mussels), the soup was astounding.

Finally, at the end of the meal, they have a pandan jelly dessert.  It was the perfect little sweet something to round off an excellent meal.

Most memorably, though it is a buffet, the quality of meat/ seafood offered is excellent.
