Hotel Lisboa, Macau

Don’t be put off by its funkily retro exterior, Hotel Lisboa is a truly quality hotel and offers a truly luxurious experience so rare these days.

Established in 1970, Hotel Lisboa is a fixture in the Macau skyline and is the city’s first 5-star hotel.  It has the longest and richest presence in Macau’s hospitality history. The hotel features a lavish mix of Portuguese and Chinese interior décors, and also houses the hotel owner’s extensive private collection of priceless art pieces. Hotel Lisboa offers gourmet dining experiences with an extensive wine collection of over 15,700 labels, shared between 13 restaurants and lounges in Lisboa Hotels Complex.

It is highly recommended to stay in a Royal Suite in the Royal Tower.  One step into the room and you are cocooned in luxury.  The room is huge and decorated in gold and teal.  It is beautiful.  The wooden furniture all have beautiful patterned panels.  The attention to detail is amazing.

The luxury and beauty extends to the bathroom.  The bathroom is glittering lilac mosaic and glass and marble wall panels.

The quality of the amenities is the best I have seen in any hotel so far.  They have His and Hers bedroom slippers.  His slippers are larger and in champagne colour; hers are smaller and in pink.  The best part is, the slippers come air-sealed in plastic.  In this way, you can rest assured that they are brand new and never worn before.  In other hotels, I have also wondered if Housekeeping simply puts the slippers back for the next guest.  I always feel a little gross when I put on the slippers in other hotels.  Finally, a hotel has heard my prayers and assured me the slippers are new.

Similarly, the bathrobe is also sealed, and hence clean.  This is the first hotel I have seen which does this.  The care for the guest and attention to detail is just amazing.

In the room, you get a free mini bar complete with soft drinks and free beer.

They have also provided an electric air pot so your warm water remains warm.  The care for the guest and attention to detail is just amazing.  I really appreciate they have invested in an air pot (as opposed to just a kettle)to make the guest’s stay more convenient.

On the TV, you have 3 free porn channels.  The porn channels are password protected (to prevent accidental viewing by kids) but the password is available to all guests.

The bathroom includes a multi-purpose shower shall.  It can be a jacuzzi, a steam room, it has water jets (even for the feet) and receives radio.  Best of all, the shower stall is disinfected every day by Housekeeping.  At the end of the disinfection, they strip of paper over the bathtub to let you know it’s done.  The attention to detail is amazing.

The attention to detail continues to the toiletries.  Firstly, they have provided Hermes toiletries, which were totally luxurious.  For their Q-tips, one end has a little hook in case you feel the need to go digging.  Their disposable shavers a more sturdy than all other hotels I have seen.  They have provided a bar of antibacterial soap, which is so reassuring to clean freaks.

All the above attention to detail should be testament to what a great hotel this is.  Based on the room alone, this room is the best quality I have seen.

The hotel is more known for dining than shopping.  The hotel has got no shopping though you can easily walk to Wynn and MGM Grand where you find a lot of upmarket boutiques. The hotel houses the Michelin-starred Joel Robuchon.  You also find the one Michelin-starred Tim’s kitchen.

Getting around is very easy.  You can take the hotel’s free shuttle to the ferry terminal.  From there you can hop on to any of the other hotel’s shuttle which will bring you to Cotai etc.  The largest bus stop in Macau is right in front of the hotel.  You can get buses to Taipa and Coloane etc.

The hotel is also within walking distance to the old town, St Paul’s Cathedral and other sites.

For luxury, beauty, quality and attention to detail, Hotel Lisboa is the choice.
