Little by Little Restaurant, Johor Bahru
Little by Little Restaurant is a humble-looking restaurant that serves quality authentic dim sum.
Being new, the environment is very clean. The restaurant occupies a shophouse in Taman Adda Height. The restaurant is semi-open—- it has 3 ceiling aircon units blasting but the front door is wide open. You get the idea; not fully air-conditioned but comfortable enough.
Xiao Long Bao Dumpling
Served with the customary ginger and dark vinegar. The Xiao Long Bao here is just filled with sweet meat juice! It is definitely comparable to Ding Tai Fung. For the price, I would say it is actually better.
Golden Egg Dumpling
Filled with firm, fresh shrimp. The “golden egg” comes from salted egg yolk which lends that characteristic salty-umami quality to the dumpling. Quite an interesting combo.
Steamed Rice-roll (Prawn)
Silky, tender rice skins wrapped around fresh shrimp. Sweet-savoury soy sauce is drizzled all over it. Good enough to compete with restaurants anywhere.
Porridge with Century Egg and Pork
I thought this would be watery rubbish but the bowl was chock-full of century egg and pork. The slight hint of sesame oil makes this authentic and delicious.
Fried carrot cake
Deep fried golden brown, this is crispy on outside and firm on the inside. The texture is great. It is not too soft and there are bits of carrot.
Yam Puff
Beautifully fried. The skin is thin. Inside, it is full of meat bits dripping with rich brown sauce. Heaven!
Japanese Fish
They deep fried the curvy part covering the gills and then drizzled teriyaki sauce over it. I appreciate the tiny details in the form of sesame scattered over the fish, This gives a butty flavour which contrasts nicely with the teriyaki sauce.
I honestly think this is a good quality restaurant worth spending money on. Everything looks and tastes as they should. I, for one, will be back!
