Lloyd’s Inn, Singapore
Lloyd’s Inn is a very new boutique hotel located in a residential area a stone’s throw away from the shopping malls of Orchard Road.
Think minimalist chic.
Think unfinished concrete walls and floor.
I stayed in a Business Room while I was there. The Business Room adopted an interesting loft layout. You have a bed and a TV upstairs.
Downstairs, you have a desk for working and a couch for watching television. Don’t worry, you are sheltered from prying eyes.
You have an open air shower and toilet. Yes, you shower in an un-airconditioned setting. In one aspect, this small hotel has gone beyond my expectation—- they have installed classy Grohe bathroom fittings.
There is no wardrobe. Rather, there is an open rack with hangers provided for you to hang your stuff.
There is no breakfast provided at Lloyd’s Inn. Rather, the hotel has negotiated an arrangement with nearby Kiliney coffeeshop. Kiliney is not a western coffee shop. It is a local coffee shop. Don’t think “Starbucks”. Think no air-conditioning. You are given breakfast vouchers which you exchange at Kiliney for local breakfast set—– Kaya toast (toast with a green spread made from coconut and egg.), soft boiled eggs, and coffee or tea.
There is a small dipping pool in the courtyard in front of the hotel.
To walk from the hotel to Somerset subway station takes about 10 mins. Somerset is station is also where you find malls. You have Orchard Central, 313 Somerset and the newly opened Orchard Gateway.
The best thing about staying here at Lloyd’s Inn are the toiletries. These are not some big fancy brand but they are a delight to use. They are zesty and velvety.
