Shiokara, Johor Bahru
Shiokara is a clean Japanese restaurant in Eko Botanic. They have an open seating area and cosy private dining rooms. When I went, business people were having a business lunch in an adjacent private room. The decor of the whole restaurant is quite zen with lots of wood.
Ika Shiokara RM$8
Marinated salty squid, salty taste
The saltiness of the squid and the sourness and zest of the lime is a wonderful, refreshing combination.
Agedashi Tosfu RM$8
Deep fried beancurd with soya bonito sauce
Beautiful, light appetiser.
Ikura Chawanmushi RM$15
Savoury steamed egg custard with prawn, chicken, gingko nut, mushroom and salmon roe
Heartwarming cuisine. I like the various levels of umami (with the egg and salmon roe) and savouriness (soy sauce). The texture (with all that prawn, chicken, gingko nut, mushroom and salmon roe) is interesting.
Sashimi Moriawase 5 types RM$88
Salmon, maguro, tako, tai, shime saba
Shiokara has an authentic Japanese chef in charge of the sashimi, so you assured that the standard up to authentic Japanese standards. Look at the presentation. Isn’t it beautiful?
Karai Hire Buta Ramen RM$30
Egg noodles with slice pork belly in aroma pork bone soup sided with SHIOKARA housemade fiery killing me softly
The broth was reasonably rich. The bowl was just FULL of ingredients, which I liked. “SHIOKARA housemade fiery killing me softly” is their house made chilli. It really was very hot. Beware 🙂
Gyu Teriyaki to kinoko RM$28
Sauteed sliced beef with sweet soya sauce and trio mushroom
What a big plate. The beef was tender.
