Your Friendly Neighbourhood Steak House @ Steak Me, Singapore

In the heart of Jalan Kayu foodie hotspot is halal steak joint Steak Me (should be easy to remember the name right?)

The vibe is very casual— it’s like your friendly neighborhood steak joint.  The place is busy even on weekdays and all the customers look like regulars — they all look like they know this place very well.  The clientele is super varied — there are Chinese couples, Malay couples, a bunch of tertiary students and a table of 5 Korean businessmen, Chinese families, a Malay family having some kind of celebration.

Shirley Temple $8

As Steak Me is a halal establishment, no alcohol is served.  They do have a variety of mocktails.

This Shirley Temple is as good as you can get anywhere.  The citrus flavour of the grenadine certainly adds a splash of piazaaz and lifts it.

Crispy & Crunchy Prawn Salad $14.90

This appetiser is like the popular Prawn Cocktail  of yesteryear, but on steroids.  The prawns are HUGE, firm and crunchy.  The hollandaise-type of sauce is heavy but delicious. The greens are also crunchy.  The vinaigrette, though simple, does a perfectly good job of balancing the hollandaise-type sauce.

Milk Fed Veal Rack $38

So very tender and has beautiful grill marks.  The meat has got a crust of salt and pepper — not sure if you like a crust.  To each his own, I guess.

They have thoughtfully prepared 3 sauces for you: herbed butter, mushroom, black pepper.  All 3 sauces are delicious.

The roasted potato is beautifully roasted and very delicious.

Creme Brulee $9.80

I appreciate the fruit on top. The tartness balances the sweetness.

Chocolate Lava Cake $9.80

The chocolate lava cake is certainly moist and full of molten chocolate.  A sure hit with chocolate lovers.
