The Burnin’ Pit, Kuala Lumpur

The Burnin’ Pit is immediately prominent along Desa Sri Hartamas’s main strip.  Desa Sri Hartamas is a very popular dining enclave with expats.  The Burnin’ Pit has probably the largest shop frontage.  Dare I say it?  Cruising or walking down the busy main road in Desa Sri Hartamas, The Burnin’ Pit,  besides being immediately prominent,  is also the most beautiful.

The decor is immediately Texan.  Outside the restaurant is a large iron smoking pit,  where the restaurant smokes their own meat.

Inside,  the earthy decor resonates with the copious use of wood and hints at the hearty nature of the cuisine served here.  The space is beautiful,  bright and airy,  thanks to the row of ceiling-to-waist windows running down the side of the restaurant which let in plenty of natural light.  Overall,  the decor and cuisine is one cohesive whole.  In other words,  The Burnin’ Pit was carefully thought through and executed.  That is always good in a restaurant.

The Burnin’ Pit smokes all their meat themselves for 8-14 hours the night before.  In other words,  all meat are in limited supply and available only until sold out.

The meat,  whether it is beef brisket,  beef ribs,  pulled beef,  lamb or sausages made themselves in-house, is just gorgeous.  I always knew meat is filling but I didn’t know meat can be this beautiful.  The skin of the beef rib simply sparkled (from fat,   I think).  All meat had a beautiful red inside.

They tasted wonderful.  Though the portion was thick and hearty,  regardless of the kind of meat, the flavour has COMPLETELY infiltrated,  penetrated,  soaked through,  soaked up by the meat.  It was heaven.  Depending on the cut of meat you chose,  the fat is all soft and buttery from being smoked so long.  When you bit into the meat,  the velvety fat creams your mouth.  OMG!  All the side dishes were delicious too.  They don’t neglect details.
