From Dinosaur to David Beckham @ Trimmings (Dempsey), Singapore

Trimmings is a hair salon and spa extremely popular with expats.

When I arrived on a Thursday morning, it was nearly full house. Housed in a black and white bungalow in the Dempsey area, the interior can be described as Scandinavian. Think light, warm wood tones against white walls.

For spa treatments, you are led to the adjacent bungalow where the treatment rooms are.

For my full body massage, I got to pick my preferred oil. The massage oil smelled luxurious and upmarket. The massage was great — it was firm and quite hard, just what I needed. I did fall asleep during the massage.

After the massage and after putting on my shoes, I was led back into the main building where the hair salon and the nail parlour is.

For my Médical Pedicure, I took a seat in very comfortable armchair on a raised platform overlooking the carpark of the Museum of Ice Cream. It was quite a nice view.

The Medical Pedicure is presented as the perfect remedy for callused skin, cracked heels, dry skin, fungus, peeling skin. I had so much calluses on my feet that I could no longer ignore it. The calluses are starting to hurt when I walk. Every time I looked at my feet, I thought, “OMG. I look like a dinosaur that has rampaged through countless jungles.”

First of all, I was offered a cup of hot tea. You can choose from:

Café au Lait

Freshly Made Ginger and Lemongrass

I chose the Ginger and Lemongrass. It was the perfect drink after my massage.

My pedicure started. The therapist started pushing back and cutting the cuticles. My nails looked better immediately. They looked more refined….less pre-historic…hahaha

Then the therapist started buffing my nails. Perfect! I do like my nails to have bit of a healthy sheen. They look clean and nice that way.

Then came the main show—–the filing of the calluses on my soles. The therapist gave her all and filed non-stop. By the end, I was so embarrassed because the floor was covered with specks of my dead skin.

Then came the scrub to reveal the soft skin underneath.

Finally, the scrub was washed away and my feet were dried. The therapist massaged my tight, tired feet.

The result? The calluses were gone. I was infinitely grateful for that. The nails looked clean and healthy. I felt like a human being again. Thank you Trimmings. 😊
