Excellent Tapas + Novel (Pun Intended) Halal Mocktails @ Wanderlost Lounge, Singapore

Sitting on top of Bugis Plus is Wanderlost Lounge.  Wanderlost Lounge is the brainchild of The Halal Mixologist.  The lounge attempts to take the diner on a culinary journey through the non-alcoholic mocktails inspired by and named after beloved literary classics such as Alice in Wonderland, The Little Prince, Harry Potter, Hamlet etc

Just because you are a halal diner does not mean you should miss out on the pleasure and creativity of missed drinks.  The Halal Mixologist concocts his creations using healthy products such as natural distillates, hydrosols, tinctures, extracts, fruits, spices, herbs, kombucha so that his drinks are creative but healthy at the same time.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Cinnamon distillate, lime, mint leaves, orange juice, pineapple juice, grenadine and ginger ale

The presentation is eye-catching and funny.  Diners are supposed to use the metallic straw as a wand and tap on the cloche before “unleashing” the drink.

Buffalo Chicken Mid-wings (6 pcs) $12

Wings, paprika, buffalo sauce, Cajun, sriracha

Excellent.  The wings were coated with sauce as opposed to drowning in sauce (like many Korean chicken wings). The sauce of a masterclass in spiciness— multi-layered and flavour.  The wings are very very crispy, as they should be.

Mentaiko Scallops with Kaviari (4pcs) $13

Scallops, Pollock mentai, cheese, kewpie mayonnaise

The scallops are huge.  It was so satisfying to bite into them.  The neutral protein also takes up the excellent melange of flavours —- the brininess of the scallop juice, sweetness of mayonnaise, the creaminess of mentai.  The caviar adds a final burst of saltiness and a hint of umami.

Meatballs with salsa (8 pcs)

Swedish meatballs, Mexican salsa, cheddar cheese

This dish has the meatiness of Swedish meatballs but with the added tang of the salsa   the tanginess balances the meat.  This is a definite improvement over the Swedish Meatballs at IKEA.

Creamy Mussels Au Gratin (6 pcs) $14

New Zealand mussels, butter cream, onions

It was incredible.  The mussels are fresh and clean.  The sauce was absolutely delicious — buttery, garlicky and just a hint of spice (curry powder?).

Black Angus Ribeye $32

Prime Black Angus Ribeye Herb Mis & Spices

The mash and vegetables are excellent.  The mash is made from real potatoes as opposed to powder.  The gravy has a bit of a kick as opposed to purely savoury.

The vegetables are very clever.  The play of colours simply entices the eye.  Also,  the salad is a mixture of cooked and raw vegetables.  Having cooked vegetables warm up the salad, which I guess most Asians would appreciate.
