On board Thai Airways Boeing 777-200
With palms pressed together, a slight bow and a huge smile, I was welcomed on board the Thai Airways Boeing 777-200. It was my first time on Thai Airways and the flight from Singapore to Bangkok did not disappoint. The flight had a duration of 2 hours.
Being such good neighbours, it is no surprise that Thai Airways have flights from Singapore to many beautiful Thailand cities almost every day. Flight rates can start as low as a hundred dollars and best of all, it comes with such excellent service. Check in can be done conveniently online to avoid all the hustle and bustle down at the airport’s check in counter.
Thai Airways is a member of Star Alliance and they do take their hospitality seriously, aiming to be the first choice carrier in Thailand. The cabin crew succeeded in making my journey a comfortable and enjoyable one even though I was in the Economy Class. The Boeing 777-200 comprises of 30 Royal Silk Class seats and 279 Economy Class seats. The Economy Class cabin had a seating configuration of 2-3-2.
The seats were comforting with its plushness and the bright colours actually gave the whole cabin a nice pop. We were given pillows for our flight as well. I was lucky to be seated by the window to marvel in the spectacular view of the clouds. The in-flight entertainment had a wide selection of movies and games to keep us entertained too. Within an hour on the plane, the cabin crew had our lunch orders and were serving us systematically. Was I excited to have some food!
Chicken in-flight meal
We were given an option of chicken or vegetarian and of course I had to go with the chicken. There was an array of food served on a burgundy tray. Apart from the pack of water, we were later also served either tea, coffee or juice. Being an avid coffee drinker, I was ecstatic over the variety of complimentary beverages.
A whiff of the aroma of the Sweet and Sour Fish and Fried Rice was enough to tingle my taste buds and made me drool. There was also a bun, salad, cake and soup. The portions were just nice and the meal was such a complete one.
Despite its intimidating colour, the fish was not as spicy as I expected. It really is such a soothing dish and the fragrant rice compliments it very well. The food were served hot which I am highly pleased about. Overall, the fish was deliciously tender and the whole combination was great.
Cold Tuna Salad
As soon as I was done with the main meal, I couldn’t wait to start on my cold tuna salad. I loved how refreshing it was and there were red and green bell peppers as well as mangoes for that extra crunch. It was so full of flavour that it bursts in your mouth with such intensity. There was such a vibrant textural contrast. I had it with the bun that was given. Dip it into the salad and pop it into your mouth, every bite was a delight!
Fluffy bun
I have to mention that the bun was fluffy and warm too.
Cake
Lastly for dessert, I had cake. I’m not much of a cake fan because of its thick icing and cream but this was an exception. The level of sweetness was just perfect. The cake wasn’t dry and flaky like most cakes were, it was moist and thick and the little stripes of icing just took the cake. To be honest, I could have eaten two at a go.
And with that, I ended my lunch on board Thai Airways with a fulfilled tummy. The food was excellent, every dish had a way to ignite your taste buds. Being no stranger in the culinary scene, Chef Pornsak Suparat ensures all his creations are executed with perfection. Thai Airways take pride in their food and believes in serving only the best and finest quality in-flight meals.
Head rest for a quick nap
I had an hour to go before touch down, so what’s a better way to relax after a meal than to nap? La siesta~ do it like the Spaniards. I plugged in my complimentary headphones into the in-flight entertainment screen and dozed off within seconds.
All in all, the journey had been a tremendously pleasant one. Check in was convenient, the service and food was excellent as well. I wouldn’t hesitate to book my next flight out with Thai Airways.
