Quality All The Way @ Badoque Cafe, Singapore

Badoque Cafe simply oozes quality in every aspect.

From the distance, the cafe stands out and beckons with its warm, welcoming lamps.

You know this is a very well-run place because it is neat, very clean and colour-coordinated.  The colour coordinated al fresco area (green and black) signals they care and have put thought into running the place.  This is so unlike a certain insufferable place I dined at recently which was obvious a cash-grab operation —– paint is peeling off the walls, curtains are hung askew, and they patched up their ceiling with sponges.  It was laughable.

Anyway, the high standards continue when you enter the air-conditioned seating area of Badoque Cafe.  The seats are colourful.  The lamps are beautiful. It is extremely neat.  There is even art on the wall.

Also, for the first time ever, I see a dedicated prayer room in a cafe.  They have even got the kiblet marked out.  They are that considerate.

There is an open kitchen.  You can see how clean it is.

Badoque Cafe’s menu features Western mains, pasta, Asian Mains and Middle Eastern mains.

Ebi Tempura $12.50

You would think it is greasy but it is not.  And it remains crispy even after being left out in the cold for some time.

Ribeye $42

350 gms New Zealand, 60-day aged.

You know, I’ve had too many mediocre steaks.  So many smaller cafes/ restaurants claim to offer quality steaks at affordable prices but their steaks are laughable. They don’t know how to grill a steak.  As long as it’s cooked, it’s good enough for them. Or their beef is about to go bad so they quickly grill it, refrigerate it and then warm it up again when there is an order for steak …. days later.  But this steak confounds all the bad steaks I have had.  The beef feels fresh.  It tastes like a dry-aged steak.

Ayam Bakar Betawi $18

The skin is crispy and savoury, sweet and mildly spicy.  The rice is absolutely delicious.  After tasting the incredible olive rice at Cuba Libre, I finally found another contender for Most Delicious Rice.

They don’t have dessert on the menu

You have to refer to the board on the counter to find out the desserts of the day.

Honey Earl Grey Hazelnut $8.50

It is very light and delicate, like a Japanese-style cake.

I have always thought of Simpang Bedok as overpriced and overrated.  I never thought I would find a gem like this there.
