Impeccable Beef Wellington + The Best Lamb Cutlets @ Cowaramup Roadhouse, Singapore

So dear readers, if you have been following this food blog, you will probably know that I am always on the lookout for great restaurants in the Telok Blangah area.  The reason is because I hate Vivacity.  You can read about the reasons in the post Xchange Restaurant and Bar.

Anyway, when my expat friends told me about this new restaurant Cowaramup Roadhouse, located right opposite PSA Club and Reflections at Keppel Bay, I knew I had to try it (also for your sake, dear readers).  As I found out during my visit, Cowaramup Roadhouse is an Aussie-inspired bar grill by the same dynamic duo Chef Jimmy Teo and Chef Gerald Lau who gave us Meet 4 Meat.  Indeed, just like Aussie friendliness, the vibe here is unfussy, easy-going and casual.  Like Meet 4 Meat, Cowaramup Roadhouse is specially created to bring quality cuisine at affordable prices.

To start you might want to try their house pour wine.  They have a house pour Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.  Currently, everyday from opening till 8pm, you enjoy a 1-for-1 promotion for house wines.

Indomita Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon $10

Aromas loaded with berries and ripe red fruits, dark flowers, and tobacco

Big, bold and versatile, it can handle any job for a red wine.  And it did, with my Beef Wellington and Lamb Rack.  Please read on.

Baby Octopus

Tossed in olive tapenade

On their own, the baby octopuses are light and healthy. The tapenade on the hand is expert.  It is astounding that a small thing like that is actually a mellifluous, complex melange of flavours.  The saltiness is toned down a lot. You also get sweetness and perhaps, just perhaps a little acidity and a very, very tiny bit of spice.  I dunno.  Like I said, it was very, very subtle and seamless.  I can eat the tapenade on its own as a side dish and not just as a dip.

Skewer Platter of 2 Chicken Skewers and 1 Veggie Skewer

Chicken Skewers – Chicken breast, Spanish onion, capsicum, garlic butter

Veggie Skewers – Chat potato, zucchini, capsicum, Spanish onions, garlic butter

First of all, just like the Baby Octopus, this is also a very healthy dish with very little oil.

The Veggie Skewer is not all extraordinary.  I mean, it’s just grilled vegetables and you get it everywhere.  The taste, however, is very simple but extraordinary.  It just the natural caramelized sweetness of the vegetables.  Simplicity really is the best.

The dip is very light, refreshing and Mediterranean.

The 2 mains I tried are both also available at Meet 4 Meat.

Beef Wellington 200gm

Australian beef tenderloin, mushroom duxelle, puff pastry, brown sauce, roasted chat potato, spiced corn ribs

The Beef Wellington is flawless.  The pastry was crusty.  The tenderloin was thick and tender.  The duxelle mushroom and sauce add savoury lubrication.

Lamb Cutlets

4-boned, secret marinade, roasted chat potato, spiced corn ribs

The most interesting Lamb Cutlets I have had anywhere in the world.  The secret marinade gives the lamb a very appetizing sweetness.

All the dishes tried were very competent.  Cowaramup Roadhouse is a place I would visit again.
