Fat Cork Wine Bar, Johor Bahru

Tucked away in Taman Pelangi is this hidden gem of a gourmet food and wine outlet simply named ‘Fat Cork Wine Bar’. Look out for the not-easy-to-miss bright orange and black signboard that decorates the shop front but doesn’t provide many clues about the wine bar itself.

When you first set eyes on the unassuming shop front, you may not think much of this food and wine outlet. But never judge a book by its cover.  Allow yourself the opportunity to slowly sink into the warm embrace of the interior of the wine bar. As soon as you push open the black glass door of the wine bar you will feel a touch of the relaxed atmosphere that lies in wait for you rush out to embrace you. The grey and black hues of the interior are very soothing as are the soft lights and cool interior.

The open cabinets in the wine bar filled with more than 150 different types of wines, are enough to draw the breath of any wine connoisseur. Feel free to walk and learn more about all the different wines that you can choose from. The staff, who you may not have noticed, will be more than willing to answer all your questions about the origins and tastes of the various wines displayed for your wining pleasure. We were also amazed by the fact that 80% of the wines displayed were imported from France. However, there are also several rare local brands to choose from.

As for the food, we can only say you’re in for a treat and be prepared to be spoilt for choice. There are more than 40 different types of western dishes ranging from appetisers to main courses and ending with desserts. However, some seasonal dishes are only available during certain periods. If you require clarification on any of the dishes in the menu the serving staff would be more than ready to help you make your selection.

The menu also shows the owner’s humorous disposition, with the names of certain dishes described as ‘fat’ to echo the name of the outlet. The diner also has a good view of the open plan kitchen, through which you can witness each chef focused on creating your dream dish!

The editorial team had a totally awesome wining and dining experience in the ‘Fat Cork Wine Bar’ and we would like to recommend that you try their dishes when you visit this outlet.
