Hotel Jen Tanglin, Singapore

I recently checked into Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore to experience this exciting new hospitality concept that is set to sweep across Asia Pacific’s top cities, in the best locations in each city.

Inspired by the virtual persona Jen, a professional hotelier who loves life, travel and the adventure of discovering new places, the concept appeals to independently minded travellers; who seek simple pleasures, easy efficiencies and the opportunity to indulge their sense of adventure.

I stayed in a Club room, which are located on the 18th floor, the highest storey of the hotel. As the surroundings are low-rise residential houses, you get an unblocked view. Club rooms come with free access to the Club Lounge on the 17th floor. You can choose to have your breakfast in the lounge or the restaurant downstairs. There is also a cocktail hour every evening from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Besides free flow of wine, cocktails and spirits, you also get small bites such as sandwiches, chicken wings, beef patties, fruit, cheeses and cake. At other hours, you can go to the lounge for coffee, tea, soft drinks and cookies.

Technology is key to catering to the highly social, young-at-heart traveller. To that end, the hotel has provided free fast WiFi everywhere and round the clock. That is heaven-sent! Imagine being able to play with your iPad while lazing by the pool or while enjoying a coffee in the lounge.

They also have convenient mobile charging stations throughout the hotel. That is totally apt in this day and age. I can’t imagine living without my phone.

In addition, they provide a laundry wash and fold service at one price (S$30) for unlimited items in the laundry bag. Great! A service that makes sense and brings great value to guests. Now, guests don’t need to pack heavy suitcases. They don’t need to run to the mall to look for a cheap laundry service. They have one right there literally on their doorstep.

Hotel Jen also provides a PressReader app with free access to 2,500 online publications, Woohoo! I hate reading newspapers becuae they leave me with icky, ink-smudged fingers. Now, with the PressReader app replacing the traditional morning newspaper, icky fingers no more!

If you sleep late, they have a coffee and snack-box-to-go options after the buffet breakfast is over. This is very thoughtful and brings great convenience to the guest.

Hotel Jen Singapore is directly connected to Tanglin Mall. It is a small, typical but adequate mall. There is a Starbucks, a pharmacy, a sporting goods store, a pet store, a travel agency, a soup shop, some boutiques as well as a cafe that is popular with locals and expats alike. In the basement, there is a supermarket and food court.

Within a 10-min walk from Hotel Jen Singapore is the lush, green grounds of the Botanic Gardens. Just a 5-min bus ride or a 20-minute walk away are the glitzy malls of Orchard Road. Hotel Jen Singapore provides great convenience to the business traveller. There are free shuttles to Orchard Road, Suntec, International Business Park, Harbourfont, Shenton Way and Biopolis.

With its re-brand and new features, Hotel Jen Singapore is set to appeal to the millenially-minded , highly social and young-at-heart traveller.
