Mandara Spa, Sheraton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur Nov 2013

I arrived early one morning for my spa appointment at Mandara Spa located within Sheraton Hotel in KL.  I was going for a Harmony spa package (1hr 55 mins; RM$405).  The package includes an aromatherapy floral footbath, a body scrub, a yoghurt body wash, followed by a choice of a Balinese massage or Pure Nature Facial.

When I arrived, I was greeted very courteously by the reception staff and given a health check form to fill in.  Once done, I was quickly introduced to my therapist, Addy.  Addy was a muscular man and his bulging biceps peeked out from underneath his sleeve.    Great!  My massage would really be deep and strong.

I was led to change into a comfortable robe and disposable paper underwear.  Then Addy led me to sit down and my spa experience officially began.  Addy lowered my feet into a bowl of warm water with flowers floating around inside.  Heaven!  He scooped water and splashed them over the top of my feet.  While letting one foot soak, Addy gave me a light foot massage on the other foot.  Ohhhhh……………my stress melted away.  This is what I call true value-add.  Instead of just a foot soak and scrub, staff can be trained to give more value (foot massage) to customers.  I really appreciated the foot massage.  Addy then sprayed an antiseptic spray on feet and proceeded to scrub my feet with bath salt.

After that, I was led to lie on my bed and Addy scrubbed me all over with salt scrub. He then applied cold yoghurt on my body.  Yummy!  I knew my skin was going to be soft and moisturised afterwards from the yoghurt.

After lying in the yoghurt and salt scrub, I was awakened up and brought to my outdoor bubble bath.  I had not much liked bubble baths before—–I thought of them as messy, un-functional, unnecessary affairs.  So ironically, I found this bubble bath and its warm water incredibly relaxing.  I had great fun luxuriating in the thick bubble and washing the salt and yoghurt off me.   While I enjoyed myself, Addy served me coconut cookies and cold orange juice.  I was having so much fun it gave me a great appetite.  I gobbled up the coconut cookies and OJ.  Addy brought me more.  Woohoo!

I was then invited to shower.  There was an outdoor shower with 2 shower heads—great for couples.  Not to worry, the walls are very high and no one can peek in.   I then proceeded to sit in the indoor shower which doubled up as a steam room.

Then came the main event which I was looking forward to——the massage.  I lay face down and Addy covered me with a large towel.  Addy worked my body all over—-front and back, up and down, my legs, my back, my shoulders, my neck, my arms, my stomach.  As he was really muscular, I thought he would do more finger work and go dig deep into my muscles with his fingers.  But he used mainly broad strokes and palm pressure.

All too soon, the massage was over and my idyllic spa experience came to an end.  I got up from my bed, refreshed and pampered.

Mandara Spa @ Sheraton is very, very clean.  Customers of the spa can also use the gigantic and very clean hot and cold jacuzzis of the Sheraton Hotel.  Getting here is very easy as there is a monorail station right outside the hotel.  The monorail station is just a few stations away from the Bukit Bintang shopping cluster.
