Thann Sanctuary Spa, Bangkok

Entering the THANN sanctuary in Bangkok, you realise it’s vastly different from other spas. Firstly, the sound of running water envelops you, as if you are standing in the middle of a tranquil forest listening to a brook sing. Everything else is quiet and calm. Secondly, the lighting is gorgeous, classy. The lights are dim and muted – no harsh, glaring screens or LED lights, just soothing shades of grey and brown. A perfect respite from the crowded, noisy, and busy city. The walls and floors are slate, while the furniture is wooden.

It is easy to mistake this for heaven: the therapists walk about as if treading on clouds, and the atmosphere is just so calming.

THANN’s therapists are a special breed. The therapists have been trained in aromatherapy, anatomy studies, and massage techniques. The two wonderful therapists we met both happened to be Thai, and – I’m sure everyone who has had the pleasure of being treated by a Thai masseuse will agree – Thai masseuses are magical. Both therapists were very professional and experienced, and there was no chattering during the massage: everything is geared toward your relaxation. It’s easy to become so comfortable that you fall asleep! The infrastructure is also made for your personal comfort and privacy, treatment rooms have their own bathrooms and showers so your little slice of heaven is just for you.

There’s a whole selection of essential oil blends that are mixed in-house, and you can choose one for your treatment. We chose one called Clarifying, comprised of kaffir lime and lemongrass, and Stimulating, a blend of rosemary, thyme, peppermint, and eucalyptus. They lived up to their names, and were of great quality, rich and pure.

Following our treatments, we arrived in the lobby to be greeted with lovely warm ginger tea and cut cantaloupe. THANN also has a line of body products, face care, hair care, and fragrances, which we thoroughly enjoyed browsing through in the lobby. The Aromatic Wood and Rice Collection especially caught our eye, and we recommend them greatly as gifts; the collections beautiful and packaging delicate. Overall, THANN is the perfect place for those looking for a relaxing break from the buzz of the city.
