The Co-op @ HomeTeamNS Tampines, Singapore

The Best Deal In Singapore (For Students)

After visiting the stellar The Co-op (Bukit Batok) and its wonderful array of quality dishes, I was heartened to know that east dwellers don’t have to cross island to benefit from this wonderful establishment.  They have an outlet conveniently located at Tampines Central!

As with The Co-op Bukit Batok, The Co-op Tampines is one of the restaurants of The Blackhole Group,  a Singaporean halal food empire. Opened only on 1 June 2019,  The Co-op Tampines brings together the best of the best dishes throughout the The Blackhole Group’s portfolio of restaurants, you know, like Avengers: Endgame or The Expendables.

The Co-op Tampines is housed in Tampines Hub, just a stroll away from Tampines MRT or Tampines Bus Interchange.  Tampines Hub is right opposite CPF Tampines building (the one with the weird satellite dish).  Tampines Hub is also where the new Tampines Regional Library is.  The Co-op Tampines is located on the third floor.  It is away from the madding crowd and there is an air of exclusivity and privacy to it.  For Hometeam NS members, they have a dedicated seating area with plenty of natural light coming in.

There are deals aplenty to be had at The Co-op Tampines.  For  students, they can choose from Popcorn Chicken Tacos, a chicken burger or Aglio Olio Pasta for only $6.90 nett.  Or, for $8.90 nett, they can choose from a beef burger, fish and chips or chicken pasta.  Any of these options have FREE-FLOW drink included in the price.  I see many students taking advantage of this deal.  And why not?  For a price that is comparable to or even cheaper than a set meal in a fast food restaurant,  you get a more nutritious (and less fattening) meal in a sit-down environment with proper china tableware and stainless steel cutlery.  The food is also served to you and the plates are cleared.  This is probably the best deal to be had for students in Singapore.

The Co-op Tampines also has a Awesome 4$ome Set Lunch deal.  Available on weekdays from 11am to 3pm,  diners can choose from Aglio Olio Pasta,  Fish Tacos, Beef Burger and Fish and Chips.  Prices vary from $10.90 nett to $13.90 nett.  Included in the deal is mushroom soup and free-flow soft drink.  To make it an even fuller meal, you can also add an additional $1.90 for ice-cream.

Virgil’s Root Beer $5.90

Handcrafted with cane sugar and it’s all natural.  That means it doesn’t artificial flavours, artificial colours, preservatives, gluten, GMOs nor caffeine.

Classic Burger In Brioche Bun With Fries $12.90 (from Working Title Burger Bar)

Grilled beef patty (120gm) with caramelised onions, mild cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, dill chips and herb tomato sauce.  Add $2.90 for extra beef patty

Beef and onions can never go wrong.  The sweet brioche bun goes well with the beef and onions.

Big Bird $12.90 (from Working Title Burger Bar)

Crispy chicken thigh with coleslaw, tomatoes, dill chips and garlic aioli

The delicious crispy chicken thigh is perfectly balanced by the refreshing coleslaw.

Double Chilli Cheese Beef Burrito $12.90 (from Afterwit Mexican Taqueria)

Tender pulled beef, mozzarella black beans, and Mexican rice wrapped in a flour tortilla served with tortilla chips

Imagine tasty Mexican rice with stretchy mozzarella cheese and flavourful beef….OHHHHHH!!  The olives add a further dimension of flavour and a certain freshness to it to lift it up.

Chicken & Waffles $12.90 (Brunch item; till 5pm daily)

Crispy chicken thigh on a Belgium waffle drizzled with honey.  Add $2.50 for beef bacon

This is a brunch item.  It is available till 5pm.  Everyday.  This is Crispy Land.   The chicken is crispy without being greasy.  The sweet waffle has a firm, crispy crust.

New Ol’ English Fry Up $15.90 (from The Mad Sailors British Kitchen)

Garlic and herb beef sausage, baked beans, beef bacon, garlic toast, sous vide eggs, mushrooms and tater tots

A huge plate.  Unlike The Mad Sailors British Kitchen where the English fry up is available only till 3pm,  this item is available here all day, every day.  That’s great.  I know there must be freaks like myself out there who like to have breakfast at unusual times.

Ribena Wings $8.90 (from Working Title Burger Bar)

Battered chicken wings tossed in a reduced Ribena sauce

This is certainly interesting.  The chicken wings are fried well— they are crispy without being too greasy. The flavour is certainly interesting.  I think kids would like this—- crispy finger food with the familiar sweet Ribena flavour.

Waffles With Ice Cream $9.90

Tasty Belgium buttermilk waffle served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

The waffle is delicious. The waffle has a good, firm, crispy crust and a slight milky flavour.  The delicious chocolate sauce certainly adds another layer of flavour and to the enjoyment. This waffle can be a good breakfast too.

Americano $4.00

The service here is impeccable.  Miss Raudhah’s service was comparable to Morton’s, Singapore.  It was very professional.  She introduced the concept of The Co-op and the recommended dishes.  She also knows the selling points or the features of each dish and mentions them too.  Besides Morton’s,  Miss Raudhah’s service is the second best I have seen, and certainly the best in a mid-range restaurant.

With so many shopping malls, Tampines is a very competitive location for F&B.  Nevertheless,  with its reasonable, affordable prices, very generous portions, The Co-op Tampines offers exceeding value that surpasses most, if not all, of the competition out there.
