The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

The Majestic Hotel is a charming heritage hotel located right in the middle of KL city. It is the only hotel in KL to be voted into the prestigious Leading Hotels of The World.

The Majestic Hotel consists of the heritage Majestic Wing and the newly built Tower Wing. Built originally in 1932, the Majestic Wing building was declared a national heritage site during the 1970s. It was later closed in 1983 and re-opened in 1985 as the National Art Gallery.

Finally, after a 7- year refurbishment, the building opened as the Majestic Wing of the Majestic Hotel. They have preserved the colonial architecture of the building.

Think piano bar, think luxurious elegance, think old world grandeur.

The Majestic Wing is an all-suite wing. All 47 suites come with 24-hour butler service. In addition, every suite comes with an in-room mini bar stocked with wine, beer and soft drinks. There are also free snacks.

In the bathrooms are Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries.

As the Majestic Wing is an no-child wing, guests with children are highly encouraged to stay in the 250-room Tower Wing instead.

Guests of the Majestic Wing can also have breakfast in their room, served by their butler. The in-room breakfast consists of juice, toast, fruit, coffee or tea. You can choose between Western toast

or Kaya toast (toast with a green spread made from coconut and egg).

In terms of dining, guests can enjoy authentic colonial dishes at Colonial Cafe prepared in the same style as what Hainanese chefs prepared for British colonial rulers back in the day. You can also enjoy the famous Majestic afternoon high tea, one of the most famous and sought after in KL. The high tea can be had in the Colonial Cafe.

You can also choose to have it in the drawing room.

The most popular and expensive venue for the afternoon tea is in the Orchid Observatory.

Prices of the afternoon tea varies according to where you consume it, though the items of the tea remain the same. The price is 48++ in the Colonial Cafe, 68++ in the Drawing Room, 88++ in the beautiful Orchid Observatory. Reservations for the Orchid Observatory can have a waiting list of up to 2 months which should indicate how popular it is.

Contango in the Tower Wing offers great buffets for both lunch and dinner. Guests staying in the Tower Wing also have their buffet breakfasts in Contango. Dining here offers an interactive experience—- guests chat at with chefs over the open stations. For certain stations such as the grill, diners can also let the chef know how they like it done.

The buffets offer great quality food and value for money. There are scallop salads, sashimi, sushi, tempura, grilled seafood and many others. There is also a fresh seafood station with huge claims, mussels and gigantic prawns. I am happy to report that all the seafood is fresh. One of the most impressive things about the buffet is the dessert selection. They have an ice-cream counter with quite a large selection of cute cakes and deserts. They even have a healthier option——– desserts with less calories. Best of all, the desserts are refrigerated. How fresh is that! I have seen too many buffets where the desserts are just lying around and are not cold any more. I appreciate details like that. The prices for the lunch and dinner are RM$68++ and RM$88++. For an additional RM$30, you get to enjoy free flow beer and wine, which I think is a fantastic deal.

The Majestic Hotel’s luxury ambience extends to the Smokehouse. There is a gentlemen’s lounge, a pool table, a card room, screening room with black and white movies, and an excellent high quality barber Truefitt and Hill. The Majestic Hotel has a one-of-a-kind spa that is arguably a destination in its own right.

For a dose of old world glamour right in the heart of KL city, try the Majestic Hotel.
