Western Mains and Stunning Pasta at student-friendly prices at Fish Tales in SCAPE Orchard, Singapore

Fish Tales is, in the owner’s own words, a “small, beautiful family-run business.” The owner is Ruby, who is so friendly it feels like she is your neighbour.

Fish Tales was started by Ruby and her son because he missed the Fish and Chips ubiquitously found everywhere in Australia when he was studying there.

This humble and friendly eatery is now approaching its 7th year of operation.

Located on Level 2 of scape (beside Orchard Cineleisure), the location is extremely convenient.  The eatery within the building is easy to find.  It is well lit, clean and the air-conditioning is cool.  The decor is fuss-free and invites you to come as you are.

The menu is quite focused.  In terms of protein mains, they have got fish and chicken.  Fried in crispy batter, you can choose for your fish/ chicken to be paired with interesting sauces such as sambal chilli or beurre au citron (lemon butter).  Of course, nacho cheese is also available.  Complementing the protein mains is a reasonable selection of pasta dishes.  A small selection of sodas complete the menu.

Lemon Butter Chicken

Both the chicken and the fries are crispy.  The citrus flavour of the sauce balances out the deep fried items nicely.

Tom Yum Seafood Pasta

This Tom Yum pasta is a true stunner.  The sauce was unforgettable and so delicious.  It has the sour tang of tom yum soup but unlike tom yum soup, it is also creamy and pale green, like Thai green curry. The recipe is from Ruby’s daughter-in-law, who is Thai, so you can be assured of the recipe’s authenticity.  Also, it must be said that the seafood (squid, mussels, prawns) was very fresh.

Crab Pasta in Pink Sauce

Juicy Crabmeat and sautéed mushrooms in cream pink sauce

This pink sauce is quite nice (at least better than others I have tried).  It is creamy but you can still taste the acidity from the “red’ sauce.  The acidity makes it quite appetising.  The crabmeat was quite copious – even guys should feel full having this plate.

At prices even students can afford, there is no reason to miss good food in this Covid downturn. What’s more, you can get that unforgettable Tom Yum Pasta delivered to your doorstep through Deliveroo and Foodpanda.
