Surprisingly Great Value-for-Money and Western Comfort Food @ Grillninetynine, Singapore

Unlike its namesake (“ninetynine”), Grillninetynine is located at 142 Arab Street.

100% halal, the homey restaurant offers comforting Western dishes (and the occasional Asian Dishes like Sambal Seabass Set).

Though just a stone’s throw away from the hipster hotspot Haji Lane, the vibe at Grillninetynine is unpretentious and come-as-you-are.

Cream of Mushroom with Homemade Focaccia Bread $8

The Cream of Mushroom was extremely rich.  You can also taste the woody, foresty flavour of the mushrooms.

The focaccia was beautifully made and had a nice crust to it

Baked Oysters 6pcs $41.90

This appetiser is interesting … in a good way.

Firstly, the oysters are huge.  They are also fresh and juicy.

The mozzarella, like in pizza ads, stretches on forever. It was quite fun to see how far the cheese can stretch. 🙂

Ribeye 200g $30.90

This may be the most gorgeous steak I have seen.  When it arrived, it was glistening and plump.  The shape of the meat, oval and thick, was beautiful.  Beautiful grill marks criss-cross across the surface.

Though the plating is simple, just fries and greens, it is beautiful and works nonetheless.

Jawbreaker $25

Triple beef patties

What a giant!  The beef patties are moist and have a looseness to them.  The savoury of the patties are balanced nicely by the sweetness of the buns

Ondeh Ondeh Cake $7.50

Salted Caramel Cake $7.50

The portions might seem small but every inch is packed with goodness.  The flour, cakey bits are thin.  Instead, you get lots of delicious cream and grated coconut and gula melaka.  In the case of the Ondeh Ondeh or lots of pecans in the case of the Salted Caramel.

The unexpected value of the steak and the cakes were great finds of the day.
