JWC The Factory, Johor Bahru

Nestled amongst the enclaves of Mount Austin, with a multitude of cafes, stands Just Want Coffee. Being the first cafe in Malaysia to have imported a coffee roasting machine, it sets the bar for premium roasted beans that are not just aromatic, but full of body and flavour when brewed.

The juxtaposition of modern and traditional is captured in the way Just Want Coffee has designed this branch, known as The Factory 30. Furnished with an industrial vintage look in mind, it is housed in an actual factory complete with an actual shutter and containers in its surrounding. At first glance, faced with a big, grey shutter, one may be confused as to where the entrance of the cafe is. That is just the pseudo entrance and cafe hoppers will have to go in through the glass door on the left of the shutters.

With so much hype on the outlook and hipster vibe of this place, it is comforting to know that the coffee as well as food does not disappoint.

Thanks to K-drama, korean fried chicken is all the rage now.  The korean fried chicken here is crispy on the outside and fresh, tender and juicy on the inside.  They have thoughtfully provided some salad for balance as well as a disposable glove for clean eating.

The JWC signature japanese curry rice is so filling!  It comes with a delicious chicken cutlet, sticky japanese rice, and come drizzled with savoury japanese curry.

If you do make a trip to Just Want Coffee, you’ll not want to pass up a delectable slice of their signature tiramisu cake. The spongy layers, infused with liquor and generously soaked with aromatic coffee, sit between rich mascarpone custard and whipped cream. This mouth-watering treat is served frozen, perfect on a hot and humid day in JB.

Despite the hassle of having to navigate to this area, Just Want Coffee has met all my expectations of a delightfully indie cafe with a delectable menu. Thus, I would most definitely return to this place for a quiet afternoon siesta over spectacular coffee and perhaps a Tiramisu.
