Village Hotel Changi , Singapore

Tranquil, Relaxing Locale

Village Hotel Changi is located in the laidback, quiet and sometimes notorious neighbourhood of Changi Village. It is far away from the city but located very near to the airport runway. Travelling to the airport is another story. You make to make a bit of a loop before you get to the airport. Driving in to Changi Village, depending on which route you take, you can pass by some very leafy roads, which can be quite a pleasure in concrete-saturated Singapore.

As mentioned, this is in a very quiet neighbourhood. The shops are a mixture of yuppie cafes, bars and traditional mom and pop shops selling sundries and stuff catering to the locals. Please don’t expect glitzy shopping malls—- there are none here. There is an un-airconditioned hawker centre. The Nasi Lemak (coconut rice) here is quite famous. You may wish to try it. There are many stalls here selling coconut rice. My suggestion is to try the stall with the longest queue, or the most people sitting around the stall. You may also rent a bicycle and cycle by the waterfront on the bicycle track.

The greatest appeal here is to spend a very quiet time just relaxing and clearing out your mind. There is a beach nearby. Come evenings and on weekends, you will see families picnicking here or just standing by the waterfront just watching airlines fly in and out of Singapore.

The hotel, too, offers quiet respite. If the hotel is used as a secluded getaway, it can get quite romantic.

The newly refurbished Deluxe rooms offer a casual, colourful resort atmosphere. The rooms are painted bright cheery colours. Mine was a bright yellow.

The building has some age. However, the good thing about staying in an older hotel is that the rooms are spacious. They even have a bathtub, which is getting rarer and rarer in hotel rooms these days. What I like most about the rooms is that they have a lot of space for your luggage. There is a foldable luggage bench. In the wardrobe is a ledge for more luggage. In front of the TV is a marble top where you can place more bags.

By the bed are ledges where you can place more bags. There are 26 channels on the TV including 6 local channels. Wifi is complimentary.

There are only buses running here. The nearest subway station is far away. For modern entertainment such as shopping and cinema, you may take Bus 29 to the busy crowded suburb of Tampines where there are a few surburban shopping malls. The hotel offers a shuttle.

The hotel is very popular on weekends with local staycationers. The hotel has many restaurants— a Japanese restaurant,

an Italian restaurant,

a wine cellar,

a lounge,

as well as the ubiquitous hotel buffet.

There are 2 swimming pools, one on the ground floor in full view of the buffet restaurant. The other is an infinity pool on the top floor where you can see planes flying in and out of Singapore.

There is a beautiful koi pond.  It is nice to spend a few quiet moments there.

This is a cheery resort in a tranquil, relaxing locale.
