Historic Hotels, Asia

In gleaming, modern Singapore,  you may hard-pressed to find a piece of history in this city of skyscrapers, much less in the hotel you are staying in.

The hotels confound the law with their history.

Amoy, Singapore

Amoy is converted from and connected to a pre-World War II Chinese temple which is now a museum.  Though historic, Amoy is ironically located in the financial district and surrounded by towering skyscrapers.

Capella, Singapore

Capella Singapore is converted from colonial bungalows from 1880s when Singapore was a British colony.  The reception used to be the British Royal Artillery officers’ mess.  Most famously,  Capella Singapore was where the Trump-Kim nuclear summit was held in 2018.

Besides these historic hotels in Singapore, such as Amoy, Singapore and Capella, Singapore, these hotels around Asia also impress with their colourful history.

Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok

The beautiful Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok dates back to 1876.  Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok has seen an extensive roll call of luminaries, including classic style icon Audrey Hepburn.

The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

The Majestic Wing of the Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur has existed since 1932.  The Majestic Wing declared a national heritage building under the Antiquities Act.  From 1984 until 1998, the Majestic Wing was Malaysia’s National Art Gallery before undergoing an extensive restoration back to a luxury hotel.
