Foxtail and Broomcorn, Hong Kong

Tired of cha chaan tengs and dai pai dongs……then you must try the new fad of Sheung Wan lunch-goers. The tantalizing tastes of Foxtail & Broomcorn’s Asian noodles (MSG-free) will leave you wanting more.

To top that, Foxtail & Broomcorn’s noodles are made with a European twist while drawing on the traditional flavours that we all know and love.

The Founders…

Created by Swiss-trained hotelier Victor Arminjon and consultant chef Rachel Balota from Singapore, Foxtail & Broomcorn draws inspiration from different cities, capturing the spirit and essence of different places all around Asia.

The Noodles….

With their 8 signature MSG-free noodle dishes, there’s something for everyone which include everything from a comforting bowl of ramen to fresh Hokkien mee and vegan udon.

We started our mouth watering experience with the Nagasaki Cold Somen Noodles (HK$78) which embodies almond-crusted chicken, wholesome and light , with homemade kimchi and ponzu sauce which gives a combination of  sweetness and sourness to the entire dish.

Next, we almost licked the bowl clean while sampling the signature Gurney prawn mee (HK$88) with pulled pork slow-cooked in sambal — a dish so popular that they actually had to save us a bowl before they ran out. It’s served with homemade prawn chilli oil which adds extra intensity.

We also highly recommend the Tokyo ramen noodles with peppery Harissa beef ribs in chicken broth (HK$78). With ‘Fall off the bone’ ribs and tasty chicken broth , this is a dish absolutely worth trying.

If you feel like a snack or a side to go along with your noodles, then Wagyu beef tataki with freshly-made sambal (HK$50) and spicy pulled pork and cucumber (HK$35) are definitely to go for.

By the time we finished our feasting, they ran out of desserts for us to try. It was painful to leave without tasting the tempting pecan cake with salted caramel or the Malaysian-inspired Kueh Dadar(pandan-flavoured crepe with coconut filling).

The Verdict

Freshness and quality are foremost at Foxtail & Broomcorn with most ingredients sourced locally from around Sheung Wan and Hong Kong. In addition to the variety to suit the palate of every noodle lover, their unique blend of traditional ingredients and experimental flavourings makes their dishes a must-try for both locals and visitors alike.
