Hotel Jen Hong Kong

Hotel Jen is an ideal hotel to stay in Hong Kong and a base to explore Hong Kong.

Previously known as Traders Hotel, and is part of the Shangri-La group, the hotel has been rebranded as Hotel Jen Hong Kong and in Oct 2015, the hotel celebrates its first anniversary as Hotel Jen.

Since rebranding, the hotel has made welcomed adjustments which target the needs of millennials.  For example, in the lobby bar, they have installed charging stations for mobile devices.  These charging stations are also available at the hotel’s gym, Café Malacca and Club Lounge.  Instead of printed newspapers, guests can download a PressReader app which provides access to over 2000 publications.  In line with the branding to Hotel Jen to target millennials, hotel staff now sport a more cheerful and casual uniform.

The rooms are relaxing and comfortable.  They are quite large, considering this is Hong Kong.  The decor scheme is contemporary minimalist. When sunlight filters in through the windows, the room is absolutely gorgeous.

If you get a suite, you get a bathtub right by a window and you overlook the harbour.  How very 5-star!

There is a club lounge on the highest floor.

On the rooftop, there is a pool and a gym.

In the morning, you have your breakfast on the first floor in Cafe Malacca. For the rest of the day, the restaurant serves authentic Malaysian and Singaporean hawker fare.

The location of Hotel Jen could not be beaten.  Hong Kong University MTR station is literally on its doorstep.  The best part of HKU station is that it is a new station. The underpasses are smooth.  It is very easy to wheel your luggage along these underpasses. Also, being a new station, you use escalators to go in and out of the station.  At the other older stations, you would be lugging your luggage up and down stairs.  How much easier your life is if you stay at this hotel.  From the hotel lobby, the major commercial and shopping areas like Central, Causeway Bay and Tsimshatsui can be reached within 5-15 minutes.

Another thing that I really liked about Hotel Jen is the neighbourhood.  As Hong Kong University is a neighbour, you see optimistic young people walking about.  There is a relaxed vibe in the air.  It is not as tense and crowded as, say, Central.  International banks such as Standard Chartered, DBS and their ATMs are right opposite the hotel.  It’s so convenient to withdraw cash.  Being a residential neighbourhood, there are plenty of affordable eateries—– you can escape the tourist trap.  There is a mall The Westwood just round the corner. McDonald’s and 7-eleven are both right next door.  The tram stop is one street away.
