Peter Hoe Cafe, Kuala Lumpur

Peter Hoe Cafe is a quiet little gem situated just 5 min on foot from Medan Tuanku monorail station.  Quill City Mall is opposite and Sheraton Kuala Lumpur is right beside.

Peter Hoe Cafe is located on Level 1 (not street level ) of a row of F&B shophouses known as The Row.  As you climb up the stairs, you will find 2 red doors – one leads to the Peter Hoe store which sells an array of colourful souvenirs;  the other leads to the Peter Hoe Cafe.

Inside, the atmosphere is tranquil.  There are colourful-tiled tables and wood benches and the row of windows overlooking the street let in plenty of sunlight without letting in the noise.   It is so peaceful to enjoy the wonderful dishes here while observing the street activities.

Fresh Lemon Juice (sugar on the side) RM$8

Ice-cool and very refreshing.  I loved how you can adjust the level of sweetness to your own liking.

Chicken and Mango Salad RM$29

Curry & paprika marinated chicken on mix garden salad with home-made honey mustard dressing and mangoes

This one is a winner—  the portion is big, the mango is so sweet and the chicken has been thoroughly marinated so that the flavour has completely penetrated the chicken.  I also love the artisanal aspect of the home-made honey mustard dressing.  The sweetness of the honey also is a lovely balance to the mild heat of the curry and paprika.  All in all, this dish was very well-conceived and it just works, works, works.

Prawn Pasta with Lemongrass Coconut Creamy Sauce RM$33

Chef special paste sauce.  Served with side salad.

This was truly original.  I have never had pasta with this lovely Southeast, tropical flavour.  I feel like I can eat this everyday for days and I certainly slurped up all of the sauce.   The spaghetti was al dente.  The lovely presentation did not hurt either.

Besides delicious mains, Peter Hoe Cafe also offers quick bites.

Tomato and Onion Quiche RM$26

Home-made quiche with onion and sliced tomato. Served with side salad.

Once again the portion is huge.  The quiche itself certainly tasted home-made.  There was a certain down-to-earth quality to it.  It was delicious.  They have baked it just right– it was not too dry nor too wet.  And on top of that, it comes with a delicious, refreshing salad that was a perfect balance to the buttery crust of the quiche.  The cherry tomato on the side was firm and sweet, which reassures me to the freshness of the ingredients used here.

Peter Hoe Cafe is popular with tourists.  There were Japanese and Taiwanese/ Chinese (???) tourists there when I visited.

With such an innovative menu, great location and clean, quiet ambience, this is one “secret” venue I hate to share.
