Best Afternoon Tea in Singapore

Having tried their fantastic Peranankan dishes a few weeks ago, I eagerly returned to try their Peranakan High Tea.

The set has a balanced mixture of savoury and sweet items, Asian and Western sweets. The items are elegantly presented in a two-tiered tray of fine bone china. The savoury items are presented on top; the sweet items below.

The savoury items are outstanding. They are the best afternoon tea items I have tried.

Mini Penang Otah with Pan-seared Hokkaido Scallop.
This is a interesting contrast between soft and firm. As the scallop essentially has no flavour, it goes with well with the rich, slightly spicy and flavourful otah.

Kari Kapitan Tartlet with Idaho Potato Mousse
The delicate little mounds of potato mousse was very smooth. I love how they pay attention to smalls details such as this.

Kurobuta Buah Keluak on Crispy Man Tau
A fine balance between the savoury of the Kurobata and the sweetness of the Man Tau.

Foie Gras Mousse Tartlet with Pickled Papaya.
This is exquisite. A fusion between sweet and savoury, French and Thai cooking. The savoury foie gras mousse topped with tangy, pickled papaya. The toppings are encased in solid tart crust.

The savoury items exhibit imagination, originality, great balance and excellent conceptualisation.

The sweet items include mango pudding, chocolate cake, banana cake and macaroon. There are also scones and Nonya kueh (cakes). ‘

Banana Cake
The best banana cake I have ever tried. This banana is so rich. The rich banana flavour hits you immediately as it enters your mouth. It is like a bomb. The rich banana flavour is followed by an intense nutty flavour.

Macaroon
The very best of macaroons—- a crispy shell and a soft center. It is delicately sweet.

Chocolate cake
Soft and creamy

Nonya kueh
Rich flavour of coconut or Gula Melaka.

This excellent high tea can be had for S$34++ per person, with free flow of Indicate Signature House Blend Coffee or Premium Organic Tea.

You can add S$15++ for a glass of Moscato d’Asti or S$30++ a cup of very strong Kopi Luwak.

The quality of pastries and confectionery here is a marked head and shoulders above the mediocre fare found elsewhere in town. The service here is always attentive. The wait staff goes about doing their stuff without any attitude. This location is a 5-min walk from Newton MRT. There is a bus-stop right outside with buses from Shenton Way. Orchard and Chinatown.

This is the best afternoon tea in town.
